Yard to the Post @ Rosehill Gardens
Race Day: Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, 12 November 2016
A good fair track presented itself at Rosehill despite some rain around earlier in the day. We got to see some exciting racing, including a dynamic win by NIETA in the last race, a mare with a serious finishing sprint.
In other races MOHER continued his perfect Rosehill 1,500 metre record with another all-the-way win and BURNING PASSION defied his big weight to outclass RYKER, who was primed for a first up tilt by the Snowden stable.
The good money for Waller's PURSUIT OF HONOUR in the staying race of the day is a promising sign for the future, clearly a horse with upside over a longer distance.
The two-year-old VERANILLO and filly ZUMBELINA both ran good time to win their races earlier too, both horses worthy of following in the future.
A full review will be on-line Monday 12pm.

1 | Veranillo | James Cummings | Brenton Avdulla | 3 | 57.5 | |
2 | Groundbreak | Michael, John & Wayne Hawkes | Christian Reith | 4 | 57.5 | |
3 | Epic Rant | Michael Costa | Joshua Parr | 8 | 57.5 |
In The Running
VERANILLO jumped best to on-pace and settled outside ARBITRATE, who took up the lead. They rolled along at an honest STRONG tempo.
The Result
VERANILLO (1st) moved up and was too strong to the line. GROUNDBREAK (2nd) ran on well from the back and EPIC RANT (2nd) was good to the line too.
The Interest
The trials were impressive and the performance lived up to it. VERANILLO a class above today. They were all slowing down on the line though, so we will see how strong the form is. OUR MANTRA no room late and may have scored a place. You had to like the way EPIC RANT kept coming despite not getting clear space too. Follow VERANILLO and EPIC RANT. Forgive OUR MANTRA.
Race 2 CLUB MARCONI HANDICAP
Swoopers strike in a high pressure race
Place | Silk | Horse | Trainer | Jockey | Gate | Kgs |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Zumbelina | Chris Waller | Rory Hutchings | 3 | 58.0 | |
2 | Cadogan | Kevin Corstens | Brenton Avdulla | 5 | 60.0 | |
3 | Samadoubt | Bjorn Baker | Ms Deanne Panya | 2 | 61.0 |
In The Running
Plenty of pressure in this race, MANDEE and VASILIEV pushing forward before a keen-going SAMADOUBT bolted clear mid-race and ensured a STRONG tempo. ZUMBELINA and CADOGAN settling nicely behind them.
The Result
ZUMBELINA (1st) strode up wider and surged clear for a good win. CADOGAN (2nd) made ground under heavy pressure to catch SAMADOUBT (3rd). A big gap to the rest.
The Interest
They went mad in this race! It didn't look like there was much pressure on paper, but Panya couldn't hold SAMADOUBT and they flew along! That was the ideal set-up for ZUMBELINA, who did impress in fast time. CADOGAN had the right POSITION IN RUN, but he's more of a power horse (low surge ratings) so keep following in races with a steadier tempo. No Follows or Forgives.
Race 3 COSMEDIC CENTRAL HANDICAP
Another Waller stayer scores in the city

---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Pursuit of Honour | Garry White | Tye Angland | 8 | 57.0 | |
2 | Der Meister | Paul Perry | Tim Clark | 2 | 54.0 | |
3 | Soviet Courage | Chris Waller | Joshua Parr | 1 | 59.5 |
In The Running
SOVIET COURAGE took up the lead and set a FAIR tempo. Stable-mate PURSUIT OF HONOUR restrained to the back. DER MEISTER in the box seat. DOC HOLLIDAY and LOW PLACES took off out wider on the turn to challenge.
The Result
PURSUIT OF HONOUR (1st) came to the outside and ran on best, from DER MEISTER (2nd), who came off the heels of SOVIET COURAGE (3rd) and fought on.
The Interest
PURSUIT OF HONOUR had raced behind some of the better three-year-olds and was always going to be a candidate for further progression as a four-year-old. Waller took him to Hawkesbury and he took the next step here. A few other honest runs in the race, SOVIET COURAGE probably wanted it wetter. Follow PURSUIT OF HONOUR.

2 | Snippets Land | Peter & Paul Snowden | Blake Shinn | 5 | 60.0 | |
3 | Meursault | John O'Shea & Tom Charlton | Brenton Avdulla | 4 | 54.0 |
In The Running
KUDERO kicked up on the inside and made sure a FAIR to STRONG tempo was set up. MEURSAULT settling just off him and THAT'S A GOOD IDEA restrained behind them.
The Result
LUNAR RISE (1st) came to the outside and ran on best, from SNIPPETS LAND (2nd), who ran on well also. MEURSAULT (3rd) battled on OK.
The Interest
The rain and honest tempo set up by KUDERO didn't help both MEURSAULT and THAT'S A GOOD IDEA, horses you can follow on firmer tracks during the summer. LUNAR RISE and SNIPPETS LAND both in the right spot and performing well. MORAL VICTORY didn't have the speed back in distance. No Follows or Forgives.
Race 6 CLUB MARCONI AMARTRICE FUND HANDICAP
Tough lil' Daysee wins again
Place | Silk | Horse | Trainer | Jockey | Gate | Kgs |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Daysee Doom | Ron Quinton | Andrew Adkins | 4 | 59.0 | |
2 | Nudierudie | Michael, John & Wayne Hawkes | Christian Reith | 5 | 56.5 | |
3 | Painted Firetail | John O'Shea & Tom Charlton | Brenton Avdulla | 7 | 56.0 |
In The Running
YUMA DESERT took up the running at a FAIR tempo with the Queenslander ALPEN ROSE moving up on her outside. DAYSEE DOOM just behind them with room to move.
The Result
DAYSEE DOOM (1st) came to the outside and was too strong late, from NUDIERUDIE (2nd), who ran on well too behind her. PAINTED FIRETAIL (3rd) was held up when the sprint went on, but couldn't match the winner late.
The Interest
She's so genuine and flying this prep, DAYSEE DOOM proving too strong again. She hits the line very hard over this distance range and is probably better back to 1400m. Loves a SOFT track too! PAINTED FIRETAIL a little unlucky and needed to sprint at the 300m, but couldn't with horses in front of her. NUDIERUDIE and ALART both going well. Follow DAYSEE DOOM. Forgive PAINTED FIRETAIL.
Race 7 SCHWEPPES MIX & SERVE HANDICAP
All the way for Avdulla
Place | Silk | Horse | Trainer | Jockey | Gate | Kgs |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Moher | James Cummings | Brenton Avdulla | 7 | 59.5 | |
2 | Balmain Boy | Les Bridge | Tim Clark | 1 | 55.0 | |
3 | Wine 'n' Dine | Joseph Pride | Joshua Parr | 3 | 56.5 |
In The Running
MOHER jumped best and took up the running at a STEADY tempo from BALMAIN BOY on his back. WINE'N'DINE was parked in the 'one out one back' position. DARCI BE GOOD was restrained to the back this time.
The Result
MOHER (1st) kicked best to win, holding off BALMAIN BOY (2nd) up the inside and WINE'N'DINE (3rd) in out wider. ROYAL TUDOR (4th) ran on OK too.
The Interest
He had a lot of weight today and Avdulla made sure MOHER conserved energy for a sprint home. He's an interesting horse that can quicken off a steady speed and can push hard on firmer tracks, like he did the start before. BALMAIN BOY honest and due for a win. DARCI BE GOOD not suited at all today and the old boy seems til be racing really well this time in. Folllow MOHER, BALMAIN BOY and DARCI BE GOOD.
Race 8 #THERACES HANDICAP
Big weights don't stop class runners
Place | Silk | Horse | Trainer | Jockey | Gate | Kgs |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Burning Passion | Mark Newnham | Tim Clark | 9 | 61.0 | |
2 | Ryker | Peter & Paul Snowden | Nick Heywood | 10 | 58.5 | |
3 | Eminent Duke | Jan Bowen | Ms Deanne Panya | 3 | 56.0 |
In The Running
RYKER drove forward and then took the trail behind CHOICE LARGA, who worked around to lead and set an honest FAIR tempo. BURNING PASSION a nice trail behind them REDOUTABLE HEART restrained back three wide and over-racing.
The Result
BURNING PASSION (1st) moved into space and drove to the lead from RYKER (2nd), who fought on up the inside. EMINENT DUKE (3rd) chased home after getting a trail behind the winner. REDOUTABLE HEART (4th) ran on out wide.
The Interest
He's been trained to perfection by James Cummings this campaign, BURNING PASSION winning again despite the big weight. RYKER primed for a good fresh run and delivered. He hardly ever wins though! REDOUTABLE HEART poorly ridden by the apprentice and unlucky. Forgive REDOUTABLE HEART.
Race 9 TAB REWARDS HANDICAP
Power and speed is all you need
Place | Silk | Horse | Trainer | Jockey | Gate | Kgs |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Nieta | John Thompson | Joshua Parr | 5 | 57.5 | |
2 | Infra Dig | Darren Beadman | Tim Clark | 9 | 53.5 | |
3 | Lady Jivago | Jeff Englebrecht | Grant Buckley | 12 | 58.5 |
In The Running
HIGHLY GEARED took up the running from RAPHAEL'S CAT on the outside and TOP STRIKER out wide. NIETA and ELEMENOHPEE had a nice trail in midfield.
The Result
NIETA (1st) came to the outside and powered past for a big win. INFRA DIG (2nd) ran on OK too along with LADY JIVAGO (3rd) a few lengths behind.
The Interest
She was brought back in distance last start and delivered a rapid sprint to best TOP STRIKER and the only question was how well that form would stack up. It turned out very good! NIETA showed her raw power to break clear for a big win and TOP STRIKER unlucky stuck wide and probably should have finished second again. Most others every chance. Follow NIETA and TOP STRIKER.
