Yard to the Post @ Rosehill Gardens
Race Day: Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, 17 June 2017
Despite plenty of clear weather ahead of the Rosehill Gardens meeting today, we were left with a genuine wet winter track in cool conditions. The heavy rain from a week ago and morning dew keeping the moisture in the ground.
Bjorn Baker will feature in the Sunday paper headlines after his first Sydney metropolitan treble, favourite TEST THE WORLD winning Race 4 over 1,200 metres before his other two victories later in the day.
And it was those winners that produced the best performances of the meeting, SIR PLUSH resuming from a spell better than ever in Race 7 with a dominant 2.8 length win over 1,100 metres. Then in Race 8 the flying COLLATERAL travelled wide the entire trip and still managed to out-stay the well-backed favourite CARZOFF, who looked home 200 metres from the winning post.
It may have been only a lowly winter meeting, but both winners seem set for black type races in the future.
TAB Highway winner ZAMEX can also go onto better things now after flying home from an impossible position over 1,500 metres. Punters had every right to be nervous when Tye Angland didn't ask for a effort until getting into the straight, the race looking all but gone by that stage. His final 200 metres worth watching again.

In The Running
GAULOIS took up the running at a STEADY tempo from BIDWEE. HUALALAI went back this time towards the tail. BULL MARKET a touch keen three wide with cover behind EMPEROR HARADA (niggled mid-race). MOMENTUM TO WIN also a touch keen at the back, but most 2yos settled well given the lack of speed.
The Result
GAULOIS (1st) quickened up at the turn and held off HUALALAI (2nd), who powered into the race from the back before his run evened out the last 150m. CONDOR (3rd) fought on from the box seat. GUIPURE (4th) and ARRESTAR (5th) drove to the line late up the inside.
The Interest
GAULOIS was good from the front, putting 2.3L on first starter CONDOR ($21) from a similar position in run, but HUALALAI was also impressive from a tricky spot, ironically putting 2.3L on another first-starter from a similar position in run GUIPURE ($51). You would suggest they were clearly the best two horses on the day and future runs from all horses will help us work out which run was best. Looking forward, the last 200m sectional of GUIPURE and ARRESTAR suggests a stronger tempo and/or more distance could see them improve on this run. HUALALAI should always be respected in STEADY tempo races moving forward given his POWER rating here. BULL MARKET and EMPEROR HARADA a bit weak to the line after being in the three wide line so perhaps don't be too harsh on them. Follow GAULOIS and HUALALAI (especially steady tempo races).

In The Running
ARBEITSAM went hard in the lead and set a STRONG tempo, starting off running a 11.36 200m section from the 1200m to the 1000m and progressively slowing down until running the final section in 12.22 seconds as he weakened to the line. JUST DREAMING a few lengths off him chasing.
The Result
JUST DREAMING (1st) moved up and kept fighting hard to beat HIGH MIST (3rd), who loomed up, and INSENSATA (2nd) running on down the outside. FARAWAY TOWN (4th) ran on too in a close finish.
The Interest
She's tough! JUST DREAMING came from a similar position to SAMADOUBT and beat her by 2.2L, which is a good form marker, but not an outstanding one. ARBEITSAM goes into the 'poor run, forgive' category after Rachel King went way too hard in the front. Although he does look like he was much too short in the market. HIGH MIST fine from just behind the leaders. INSENSATA, FARAWAY TOWN and TRAVANCORE every chance back off the strong tempo. UPTOWN LAD a big horse that didn't perform in HEAVY. Follow JUST DREAMING.
