A horror watch for punters in one of the features of the day at Rosehill Gardens today, both TOM MELBOURNE and WASHINGTON HEIGHTS cramped for room on the rails as KINGSGUARD got the lucky breaks and scored a narrow win.
Jockeys searched for space hard up against the inside all afternoon given the ON PACE and NEAR RAILS bias, the result of a firm track that produced some rapid sectionals for this time of year. In Race 3, ARBEITSAM finished off the 1,800 metres in 'even' time (34.64 final 600 metres) to lead all the way and win by 4.8L.
All eyes were on the return of MENARI (picture) and TREKKING in the Listed Rosebud, Gerald Ryan's MENARI getting the prize as TREKKING couldn't sustain over the final furlong. Promising signs for the big strong son of Snitzel ahead of the Spring features.
In other races, KING VIV continued his progression to break through over 2,000 metres, while one of the biggest betting plunges in recent weeks came off in the Highway (Race 1) as ANOTHER SIN held on to win.
Results are shown below and the full review will be back from 9th September.
