Yard to the Post @ Rosehill Gardens

Race Day: Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, 02 December 2017

The stormy showers and rain that has swept across the country hit Rosehill Gardens mid-way through the meeting today, keeping punters on their toes.

Early in the meeting the two-year-old PERFECT PITCH fought hard to win over 1,100 metres in 1:05.3 at good odds, before later the Listed-class sprinters could only manage the same time as EGYPTIAN SYMBOL (picture) swept home out wide to win on a worsening track. In an eventful betting race, EGYPTIAN SYMBOL drifted sharply before a late plunge brought her right into a clear second favourite.

Waterhouse and Bott had a big day with three winners, imported stayer IMPERIAL AVIATOR breaking through in Australia, SEDANZER remaining unbeaten this campaign and BROADSIDE proving too strong for a disappointing stablemate SAVAPINSKI.

Perhaps the biggest win came in the last race of the day as UPTOWN LAD stormed home under the urgings of Brenton Avdulla to break clear of the pack for the second time in a row, a promising horse that will head towards the Provincial Championships in the Autumn according to trainer Kim Waugh.

A full review will be available Monday 12pm.

MISS INVINCIBLE sped along at a STRONG tempo, a bit keen under resraint. PERFECT PITCH went forward this time and settled outside the leader. RHEINGAU an TOULOUSE were a touch green making their runs in the straight.

The Result

PERECT PITCH (1st) kept lifting a few horses off the rails, chasing down MISS INVINCIBLE (2nd 0.2L) on the line. TOULOUSE (3rd 0.4L) ran on out wider to get a place from COLOMBINA (4th 0.5L).

The Interest

After a nice debut at Canterbury from well back, PERFECT PITCH improved second-up on the pace. Very hard to read the form out of this race though. MISS INVINCIBLE very good with bias against, COLOMBIA also a bit close to the inside, which jockeys didn't know at this stage of the day. RHEINGAU noticably green. Perhaps FLYING PIERRO (6th 1.8L) was the only horse to have "every possible".

JUNGLIZED took up the running from EPIDEMIC at a FAIR tempo.

The Result

EPIDEMIC (1st) cruised up and fought on best for a narrow win. CURDLED (2nd 0.2L) and EQUAL BALANCE (3rd 0.3L) kept chasing out wider. JUNGLIZED (4th 1.5L) not far off.

The Interest

Only 1.5L between them so difficult to get excited about the form again, EPIDEMIC does have something about her though, a horse that can settle on-pace and give a kick. CURDLED only second-up so could improve again. JUNGLIZED in the report [vet: sore behind].

GREAT GLEN took up the running from SHALMANESER at a STEADY tempo, picking up for home from the 800m in a LONG SPRINT to the line. IMPERIAL AVIATOR found the box seat.

The Result

IMPERIAL AVIATOR (1st) found space, edged out wider on the track and fought on best. GREAT GLEN (2nd 1L) gave a good kick and LAST WISH (3rd 1.8L) made ground from the back.

The Interest

Waterhouse has got the winner going well this prep and he can continue to progress, getting the job done after being confidently backed in the ring. DOUKHAN (5th 3.1L) perhaps the one with excuses, a grinding stayer that needs more tempo on, he finished off OK. VASSAL (6th 5.4L) drifted in betting and ran accordingy. Time for a spell for PYGMY (7th 20.6L) who was pulled up by Avdulla. The jockeys had worked out the bias by now and were coming OFF RAILS in this race.

CHALK took up the running and controlled a STEADY tempo with REDOUBLE moving up on his outside. SEDANZER camped just behind them.

The Result

SEDANZER (1st) was pushed wider on the track, balanced up and drove hard to the line to win well. HUNTER JACK (2nd 1.5L) and CELLARMAN (3rd 1.8L) chased well from midfield to grab REDOUBLE (4th 1.9L) for a place.

The Interest

She is a proper racehorse, SEDANZER sprinting hard and driving clear with her ears pinned back! Plenty of OK runs behind, but it really was all about the winner. Both KING DARCI (7th 5L) and COSMIC ENGINE (8th 5.8L) had low power ratings and the STEADY tempo didn't suit. COSMIC ENGINE in the report too [vet: coughing]. SIREN'S FURY (5th 3.7L) may have challenged for 2nd with clear running (blocked final 100m).

Race 6 ATC CUP

Strength from Waterhouse again

In The Running

FABRIZIO took up the running at a STEADY tempo with SAVAPINKSI on his outside, they set off from the 800m for a LONG sprint, BROADSIDE looming quickly.

The Result

BROADSIDE (1st) drove clear to win from a game LORD KINGSLEY (2nd 2L) and MONTAUK (3rd 4.3L) peaking on his run. SAVAPINSKI plain (4th 5.6L).

The Interest

There was some doubt SAVAPINSKI would be at her best after a big effort to win a G2 in Melbourne. A $2.2 favourite pulling up lame in 4th is never a good look, you always have to be aware with the Waterhouse stable that they may give their horses one more run than other stables would. BROADSIDE caught many punters napping with his poor fresh record, but he had never been for a spell and stayed in work through the spring (some thing amiss in Melbourne?). He was very strong in suitable conditions as the rain came down. BLACK ON GOLD poor in the rain and may have not stayed the 2000m too. SAVAPINSKI [vet: lame near-fore].

CABEZA DE VACA took up the lead and got rolling from the 800m, setting a FAIR tempo with a LONG SPRINT home. The leader stayed near the rails as others came wider and joined in 200m out. GOOD PROJECT up near the pace too.

The Result

TESTASHADOW (1st) fought on out wider and just pipped MISTER SEA WOLF (2nd 0.1L) driving through the pack. RED EXCITEMENT (3rd 0.4L) ran on out wide from the back.

The Interest

A very open race on paper if CABEZA DE VACA didn't find his best, why oh why did Rachel King stay on the rails!? A late drift in the market and an appearace in the report both questionable [vet: mildly lame]. Not a good look for the Waterhouse and Bott yard after SAVAPINSKI. TESTASHADOW bounced back, but with 2.1L from 1st to 7th it's hard to get too excited about the form. MISTER SEA WOLF an obvious one to follow after doing well on his local debut.

QUATRONIC led at a STRONG tempo from ISORICH on his outside, TACTICAL ADVANTAGE three wide and SIR PLUSH out four wide.

The Result

EGYPTIAN SYMBOL (1st) came out wider from midfield and charged home to beat a brave GLENALL (2nd 1.3L) running on nearer the rails. ISORICH (3rd 1.5L) stuck on gamely.

The Interest

EGYPTIAN SYMBOL is a Group Two class mare with Group One fresh form (5th first-up last prep in G1 Ubet Classic) and was too classy today. Lots of credit to GLENALL though back near the inside (bias against) and what do you say about ISORICH, he is an absolute marvel! ZESTFUL (4th 2.2L) found the better ground out wider. SIR PLUSH (5th 3.4L) and TACTICAL ADVANTAGE (6th 6.4L) wide on a strong pace, they could be forgiven.

Race 9 ATC OWNERS BENEFIT CARD HANDICAP

This lad wants to be a champ!

steady tempo

In The Running

MILWAUKEE took up the running at a STEADY tempo with MACHINEGUN JUBS on his outside.

The Result

UPTOWN LAD (1st) peeled wider and powered home best to win easily. LEVEL EIGHT (2nd 2.8L) made ground out wide too, POWERLINE (3rd 2.9L) fighting on nearer the inside.

The Interest

He won well first-up in easier grade and UPTOWN LAD took another big step today, a horse with scope that is heading towards the Provincial Championsips qualifiers now. Good runs from LEVEL EIGHT, POWERLINE and COOLRING (4th 3.4L). MILWAUKEE (6th 4.7L) probably wanted it drier and HEAVENLY ANNA (7th 6.2L) was out-sprinted. The horse that beat her last start BEST GUESS (9th 6.6L) struggled showing that the form out of their last race was questionable.
