Yard to the Post @ Coolmore Classic Day

Race Day: Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, 17 March 2018

Ron Quinton loves his mares DAYSEE DOOM and DIXIE BLOSSOMS. DAYSEE is neat, strong and tough, while DIXIE is more athletic and dynamic. Both are high quality and proved that again today in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic.

DAYSEE DOOM settled up on an honest speed set by FLIPPANT, moved to the lead and kept lifting to win as challengers came from everywhere, DIXIE BLOSSOMS slicing home from the back without much luck for a very close 0.9 length 6th. It was an incredible finish with only 2.3 lengths between 1st and the 13th-placed ALIZEE.

Andrew Noblet's SILENT SEDITION once again just missed out after placing in the 2017 Coolmore Classic, running 3rd beaten 0.3 lengths, while the very well-backed OREGAN'S DAY couldn't quite get there in 2nd.

There was even more drama one race later as the much-maligned TOM MELBOURNE was sent out as favourite in the Group 2 Ajax Stakes. He had run 2nd in most of his starts for Chris Waller and as scripted the big striking galloper loomed up and peaked late, stable-mate COMIN' THROUGH too fit when it mattered most.

Earlier in the day WRITTEN BY (1st) and SANDBAR (2nd) positioned themselves as the horses to beat in the Golden Slipper, storming clear of the chasing pack in the Pago Pago Stakes, running rapid time in the process. SUNLIGHT won the Magic Night in a 0.52 second (3.5 length) slower time, but she looks like she has more to give next week.

The full review has been delayed and will be on-line next Monday 5pm.

3 Sweet Ava Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou Brenton Avdulla 5 55.5

In The Running

SUNLIGHT led at a FAIR tempo, SETSUNA moving up and putting some pressure on. INTO THE ABYSS stuck wide with no cover.

The Result

SUNLGHT fought on best to win from CRISTOBAL (1.3L) fighting on up the rails and SWEET AVA (1.8L) holding her ground.

The Interest

SUNLIGHT is a powerhouse and only needs a dry track to be the one to beat in the Slipper. SWEET AVA going along nicely and she could be suited to 1400m next start. PERFECT PITCH *(pushed wide turn) *(wider than best ground?) a hidden run, she is tough and ready to run a big race next start too.

Race 4 CAFE CULTURE + INSITU PAGO PAGO STAKES

fair tempo
Bias: rails-6w

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Written By Grahame Begg Jordan Childs 4 55.5
2 Sandbar Brad Widdup Christian Reith 6 55.5
3 Spin Peter & Paul Snowden Kerrin McEvoy 2 55.5

In The Running

WRITTEN BY led at a fair tempo #(bit keen) with SANDBAR on his back. TOULOUSE stuck wide with no cover.

The Result

WRITTEN BY (1st) and SANDBAR (2nd 0.2L) staged a battle down the straight, SPIN (3rd 4L) running home OK out wider on the track.

The Interest

WRITTEN BY a quality galloper with real fight that will be competitive in the Slipper, SANDBAR putting himself in the equation now also. SPIN #(bit keen) *(wider than best ground?) a better run than it looked. They seem the three to follow, CHABREET (4th 5.2L) still learning and TOULOUSE *(stuck wide) *(pushed wide turn) *(wider than best ground?) (12th 8.1L) better up to 1400m+ next time.

3 Hiyaam Mick Price & Michael Kent (Jnr) Michael Walker 11 54.5

The Interest

HOLY SNOW was well backed and produced a huge run from the back, UNFORGOTTEN getting a nice trail behind him and only grabbing him late. HIYAAM stuck on well to the line and will be suited over further.
