Yard to the Post @ Rosehill Gardens

Race Day: Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, 19 January 2019

Winning horses continued on their winning way at Rosehill Gardens today, a good finish to the meeting for punters after the $1.65 favourite LJUNBERG was beaten in a farcically run Race 2. $3 favourite ALASSIO (Race 3), $2.3 favourite BON AMIS (Race 5), $2.1 favourite SWEET SCANDAL (Race 6), $2.3 favourite ALL TOO ROYAL (Race 7) and $3 favourite HARMATTAN (Race 9) all salute on what must have been a tough day for bookies.

SWEET SCANDAL was very likeable again in the way she despatched of the field over 1,350 metres, a super tough mare that is now being 'ridden ugly' up on-pace, allowing her to show her strength and give none of the chasing pack a chance. Sprinters BON AMIS and ALL TOO ROYAL (picture) just held on after going on a recent winning run, perhaps nearing their peak this campaign, while ALASSIO found the line well over 1,100 metres and could progress up to 1,200 metres next start.

In the opening race, Inglis Nursery winner ACCESSION shot clear of the field for an easy win, Waller's two-year-old now in contention for the Autumn feature races.

Race 1 COUNTDOWN TO GOLDEN SLIPPER SPRINT

James Mac left with an easy win as the 2YOs tire

strong tempo
Bias: Fair

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Accession Chris Waller James McDonald 4 59.5
2 Avon River James Cummings Kerrin McEvoy 12 55.0
3 Giselle Anne Lee & Cherie Curtis Ms Kathy O'Hara 3 53.5

In The Running

GISELLE ANNE rolled along at a STRONG tempo, IGNITING racing keenly on the outside and GALAZY wide no cover. ACCESSION settled well in a tight spot midfield.

The Result

ACCESSION (1st) got clear and surged right away from them. AVON RIVER (2nd 4.3L) running on from the back to grab the leader GISELLE ANNE (3rd 4.7L) late.

The Interest

Simpy too much class from ACCESSION, but not too sure how much he beat here. IGNITING (4th 7.2L) was keen and green, giving the race away. Not much else to mention.

Race 2 DOUG CARROLL HANDICAP

Tim Clark stacks 'em up and gets the win

slow tempo
Bias: Fair

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Vegadaze Anthony Cummings Tim Clark 2 54.0
2 Ljungberg Tony Ball Kerrin McEvoy 9 57.5
3 Above And Beyond Gary Portelli Jason Collett 3 55.0

In The Running

VEGADAZE got control at a SLOW tempo, ABOVE AND BEYOND on the outside and LJUNBERG three wide no cover. The tempo only SLOW.

The Result

VEGADAZE (1st) kicked well and held them off, LJUNBERG (2nd 1L) hitting the line after getting out-kicked by the leader, just grabbing ABOVE AND BEYOND (3rd 1.2L).

The Interest

A strange race this one with no real tempo and a poor ride from McEvoy who seemed more interested in teaching the fav' LJUNBERG to settle rather than winning the race. All runs OK, even HIGH LOW BET (7th 2.3L) fine chasing home at the back.

Race 3 MAURICE ROLFE HANDICAP

Waterhouse strength kicks in when it matters

fair tempo
Bias: Fair

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Alassio Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott James McDonald 8 58.0
2 In Good Time Tracey Bartley Brock Ryan 3 62.0
3 Witherspoon Kris Lees Corey Brown 1 53.5

In The Running

WITHERSPOON rolled along at a FAIR tempo (on the strong side), MISS CELEBRATION on the outside. CONNEMARA back further than they expected in 7th 2W WC and FOX SWIFT missed the start hopelessly (7L).

The Result

ALASSIO (1st) came into the clear from near pace and was too strong to the line, IN GOOD TIME (2nd 1.3L) fighting on up the inside from the box seat to just get WITHERSPOON (3rd 1.4L).

The Interest

A nice honest tempo and perfect trail set things up well for ALASSIO here, a horse that has great finishing strength when in form. IN GOOD TIME a very solid return and forgive FOX SWIFT (8th 6.8L) after bombing the start. MISS CELEBRATION (7th 6.5L) weakened and pulled up with issues (poor recover, respiratory distress).

Race 4 TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP

fair tempo : long sprint

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 A Snip of Cyndy Richard Butler Shaun Guymer 8 56.0

Race 5 JHB SYNDICATIONS SPRINT

A narrow win for a popular sprinter

steady tempo
Bias: Fair

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Bon Amis Jason Deamer Kerrin McEvoy 5 60.0
2 Junglized Brad Widdup Corey Brown 3 53.0
3 Paret Chris Waller Glyn Schofield 4 58.0

In The Running

PLATINUM TYCOON took up the running with ALL OVER BOSANOVA on his outside, a STEADY tempo set up (on the fair side).

The Result

BON AMIS (1st) quickened up from midfield and narrowly out-fought a brave JUNGLIZED (2nd 0.1L). PARET (3rd 1.6L) found the line very well from back in the field.

The Interest

The top three clearly the classy sprinters here and the ones to follow, powering clear of the rest despite the tempo only being on the STEADY side. PARET in for a big prep, PLATINUM TYCOON (7th 7.3L) maybe worth another chance after knocking up, he was galloped on and pulled up with a poor recovery.

Race 6 ROGER HAWKE HANDICAP

Too sweet, too strong, too good

steady tempo
Bias: Fair

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Sweet Scandal Chris Waller Robbie Dolan 2 60.5
2 Schubert Jeremy Sylvester Joshua Parr 5 59.5
3 Mapmaker Tim Martin Jean Van Overmeire 7 61.0

In The Running

SWEET SCANDAL took up the running, controlled a mid section and got away with a STEADY tempo (on the fair side).

The Result

SWEET SCANDAL (1st) kicked on and was too strong for SCHUBERT (2nd 1.8L) and MAPMAKER (3rd 2.6L).

The Interest

She was simply too good for these, SWEET SCANDAL being ridden 'ugly' now on the pace and showing her fight. MAPMAKER and SCHUBERT have similar form at Rosehill, while HANDFAST (4th 2.8L) is going pretty well. THE PHAROAH (7th 5.8L) pulled up lame and PIPELINE (8th 6L) isn't at his best this prep it seems.

Race 7 ERIC 'MO' CONLON HANDICAP

Bomb-proof, in-form and gets the job done

fair tempo
Bias: Fair

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 All Too Royal Ciaron Maher Jean Van Overmeire 4 59.0
2 Poetic Charmer Peter & Paul Snowden Tommy Berry 8 58.0
3 Kool Vinnie Kris Lees James McDonald 10 60.5

In The Running

ALL TOO ROYAL took up the running at a FAIR tempo with POETIC CHARMER moving up on his outside. SUSPENSE was wide no cover in midfield.

The Result

ALL TOO ROYAL (1st) kicked and held off a game POETIC CHARMER (2nd 0.2L). KOOL VINNIE (3rd 0.7L) ran on with THE AVENGER (4th 1.3L), who was held up until the 200m mark.

The Interest

ALL TOO ROYAL has been racing well and got the job done here... just. It remains to be seen how much he has got left this prep. THE AVENGER returned with a nice run, but it's hard to be confident in the form, a bunched finish and $91 shot CALL ME BRAD was 5th only 1.4L away. SANCTIONED (6th 1.5L) unfortunately bled.
