Yard to the Post - Rosehill Gardens
Race Day: Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, 03 January 2015
A hot steamy day at Rosehill, and a fair racing surface, was the perfect scene for some classy gallopers to show their best. Short-priced favourites Gold Seventy Seven, Craftiness and Vashka all saluted, never giving supporters a reason to fret.
Gold Seventy Seven and Craftiness (picture) are both flashy types, with strength and athleticism in their frame. Their wins showed enough talent to take on the Autumn riches. Who knows how good they good be.
The other short-priced winner Vashka is about as bomb-proof as you can get. He might not have the X-factor of the other two, but you know he will give his all.
The full race-by-race review is provided from the yard to the post. The complete guide from your team at the track.

2 | I'm Not Sure | Rodney Northam | Kerrin McEvoy | 5 | 56.0 | |
3 | My Colleague | Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou | Brenton Avdulla | 1 | 56.0 |
In The Yard
A few entitled to be a little hot in the conditions including LIEDER, AJEETA and GIULIETTA. HARDLINE had a good attitude and paraded well.
In The Running
GIULIETTA pinged to the lead and set a FAIR TEMPO from QUEEN'S CROWN, AJEETA and ENCOSTA LINE
The Result
GIULIETTA (1st) jumped to the lead, relaxed mid race and blew the field away and gave nothing else a chance. It was a professional performance as she responded well and looks a nice filly on way up. I'M NOT SURE (2nd) came out of the pack and chased well with MY COLLEAGUE (3rd) close up in a bunched finish for the minor placings. A few back in the field got lost including the well backed HARDLINE who didn't have the best of luck along with the Godolphin trained LIEDER. AJEETA and BELRIDGE raced greenly and still a lot to learn.
The Interest
Follow GIULIETTA

In The Yard
CAN I HAVE looked strong and had power, BETTER NOT BLUE was a bit keen but a nice type. GOLD SEVENTY SEVEN also looked good. GRUNDERZEIT was maybe a bit athletic/leaner. No big knocks
In The Running
GRUNDERZEIT rolled to the lead and set a FAIR TEMPO. CAN I HAVE sat on it's outside, with GOLD SEVENTY SEVEN trapped three wide. TREE OF JESSE got the box seat and CHOICE WE HAD was a bit slow.
The Result
GOLD SEVENTY SEVEN (1st) loomed on the turn and kicked away. BETTER NOT BLUE (2nd) ran on well and CONARCHIE (3rd) was solid. CHOICE WE HAD (4th) worked clear and ran on and TREE OF JESSE (5th) got out late.
The Interest
GOLD SEVENTY SEVEN was dominant, he can show up in the Autumn. BETTER NOT BLUE paraded well and is racing very gamely, one to follow. CHOICE WE HAD and TREE OF JESSE did well and didn't have the best of luck. GRUNDERZEIT wasn't the type for today, a big lanky fella. He might be better over further. Follow GOLD SEVENTY SEVEN and BETTER NOT BLUE. Forgive CHOICE WE HAD and TREE OF JESSE.
Race 3 DE BORTOLI WINES HANDICAP
'Team McEvoy enjoy a Shiraz.'
Place | Silk | Horse | Trainer | Jockey | Gate | Kgs |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Shiraz | Kim Waugh | Kerrin McEvoy | 8 | 58.5 | |
2 | Harrier Jet | Chris Waller | Hugh Bowman | 7 | 57.5 | |
3 | Lester's Home | Damien Lane | Ms Kathy O'Hara | 2 | 56.0 |
In The Yard
ZIN ZAN EDDIE, SHIRAZ and HARRIER JET all looked well. MARENOSTRO seemed fit enough. LESTER'S HOME looked bigger, towers over HARRIER JET. ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING and NEVER BACK DOWN looked very lean/light
In The Running
HARRIER JET went forward today at a STEADY TEMPO as advised with SHIRAZ also sitting closer outside the lead. EYE STRIKER and MARENOSTRO enjoyed the sit with ZIN ZAN EDDIE three wide the trip.
The Result
A good old two horse war up the straight resulted in SHIRAZ (1st) digging deep and holding off HARRIER JET (2nd). LESTER'S HOME (3rd) ran on well from the back
The Interest
SHIRAZ was simply too good today however don't forget HARRIER JET was only recently a Two-Year-Old and is going well. The towering LESTER'S HOME was kept well balanced and ran on late. Follow both Shiraz and Harrier Jet. Forgive ZIN ZAN EDDIE as was wide and prefers wet tracks.
Race 4 HAPPY 50TH GLENN HANDICAP
'Big improvement from an up-and-comer.'
Place | Silk | Horse | Trainer | Jockey | Gate | Kgs |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Last Wish | Jarrod McLean | Sam Clipperton | 2 | 54.5 | |
2 | Husson Choice | David Vandyke | Kerrin McEvoy | 5 | 56.0 | |
3 | It's a Silvertrail | Darren Weir | Blake Shinn | 1 | 59.0 |
In The Yard
OLYMPIC ACADEMY looked the best in the yard, IT'S A SILVERTRAIL looked small but better this time. HUSSON CHOICE looked well. BEAUTY PERCEPTION was nice and fit, but a bit hot. LAST WISH also looked hot
In The Running
HUSSON CHOICE and PLATINUM JACK were slow. BEAUTY PERCEPTION took up the running and set a FAIR TEMPO, just backing it off a bit mid race. IT'S A SILVERTRAIL was keen in the run when the tempo slowed. PLATINUM JACK made an early run. OLYMPIC ACADEMY was wide for some of the race.
The Result
The runs of the leaders tapered and LAST WISH (1st) picked up well to win, from HUSSON CHOICE (2nd), who stayed on late. IT'S A SILVERTRAIL (3rd) was out-sprinted and picked up late.
The Interest
It looks as though the best four stayers filled the top four places here, with OLYMPIC ACADEMY coming 4th. The favourite IT'S A SILVERTRAIL just couldn't sprint, he might be better on a tougher track like Randwick. HUSSON CHOICE is a genuine stayer, he can get further. Follow LAST WISH.
Race 5 TAB.COM.AU HANDICAP
'All class and no craft needed.'
Place | Silk | Horse | Trainer | Jockey | Gate | Kgs |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Craftiness | Joseph Pride | Blake Shinn | 5 | 57.5 | |
2 | Mihiri | Michael, John & Wayne Hawkes | Taylor Marshall | 2 | 54.0 | |
3 | Tahitian Black | David Pfieffer | Tommy Berry | 1 | 60.5 |
In The Yard
Both the speed horses looked well, FORGET and KUDERO. TERRA AMATA was not happy in the yard, ears back. Others looked ok.
In The Running
CRAFTINESS jumped well and went to the lead, cruising at a STRONG TEMPO. TERRA AMATA sat outside the lead and KUDERO got the box seat. ENCOSTANATI was wide throughout.
The Result
CRAFTINESS (1st) kept going and cruised away to win easily. MIHIRI (2nd) made ground nearer the inside and TAHITIAN BLACK (3rd) ran on late. TERRA AMATA (4th) kept on ok.
The Interest
Just way too classy, CRAFTINESS is destined for better things. Shinn took the race by the scruff of the neck. TERRA AMATA was very solid again after trying to keep up with him. MIHIRI got a nice run through and she can win an easier race. Follow CRAFTINESS.
Race 6 SCHWEPPES HANDICAP
'Shinn mirrors his effort again.'
Place | Silk | Horse | Trainer | Jockey | Gate | Kgs |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Vashka | John O'Shea & Tom Charlton | Blake Shinn | 1 | 57.0 | |
2 | Burbero | Bjorn Baker | Brodie Loy | 4 | 58.0 | |
3 | Windjammer | Allison Sheehan | Hugh Bowman | 2 | 56.5 |
In The Yard
WINDJAMMER looked well in the yard, but no Rosehill type? He's athletic. BURBERO and VASHKA looked fine. KRISTY LEE looked powerful, but nearing end of prep?
In The Running
VASHKA took up the running and set a rolling FAIR TEMPO, from WINDJAMMER, who took the trail. HIGH ESTEEM was behind them and BURBERO snuck up on the inside.
The Result
VASHKA (1st) kept going strongly to win, from BURBERO (2nd ), who made good ground. WINDJAMMER (3rd) was well beaten and KRISTY LEE (4th) was ok late.
The Interest
VASHKA and BURBERO were best in ratings and they dominated this. VASHKA has more to give for sure , but he needs to find the right races, a galloper that likes to roll along. WINDJAMMER will be better on a different track. SINGLE showed enough first-up. Follow BURBERO and VASHKA.
Race 7 HYLAND RACE COLOURS HANDICAP
'Waterhouse toughness makes the difference.'
Place | Silk | Horse | Trainer | Jockey | Gate | Kgs |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Mardi | Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott | Tommy Berry | 7 | 54.0 | |
2 | Miss Tenpins | Bjorn Baker | Brodie Loy | 12 | 55.0 | |
3 | Spanish Shoes | Myffy Rae | Ms Kathy O'Hara | 2 | 54.0 |
In The Yard
Sprinting types HOLY DELUSIONS, CAPROSSA, MISS TENPINS and COMMAND MORE all looked well. MESMEREYESER looked big and strong, she's ready. ADORABEEL is classy, but needs further? BERRIMILLA looked fit enough first up
In The Running
MISS TENPINS was aggressively ridden and set up a FAIR TEMPO, from MARDI with a nice trail. There was a gap back to the pack.
The Result
MISS TENPINS (2nd) ramped it up on the turn and kept going well, but the tough Waterhouse horse MARDI (1st) wore her down. SPANISH SHOES (3rd) and LUCKY NEWS (4th) both kept on at big odds.
The Interest
She lacks a sprint, so they were aggressive with MISS TENPINS from the turn and she was very brave. There was probably only one horse that she didn't want with the trail behind, and that was MARDI. The winner can get further and did well to win. No doubt that some On-Pace Bias that had developed assisted a bit. A few will progress from this, including MESMEREYESER and AMAZON. No follows or forgives.
Race 8 TAB REWARDS HANDICAP

Place | Silk | Horse | Trainer | Jockey | Gate | Kgs |

2 | Saintly Lad | Bart & James Cummings | Hugh Bowman | 5 | 55.5 | |
3 | Choice Bro | John Sargent | Brodie Loy | 6 | 61.5 |
In The Yard
CENTRE PIVOT, SAINTLY LAD, GOLDEN ARO, SENSING looked well and seemed the right types. KOROIBETE and SENSE OF OCCASION are classy, but need further? CHOICE BRO is solid, but still has some condition. MADDHAL and IN A KNOT looked hot
In The Running
CHOICE BRO went forward and set up a rolling FAIR TEMPO. SENSE OF OCCASION sat outside the lead, from IN A KNOT and CENTRE PIVOT in behind. SPECIFIC CHOICE was trapped wide no cover.
The Result
CENTRE PIVOT (1st) moved through the pack and surged clear. SAINTLY LAD (2nd) ran on nicely again, while CHOICE BRO (3rd) stuck on.
The Interest
A genuine enough tempo meant the class rose to the top. CENTRE PIVOT was just too good. CHOICE BRO is getting fitter all the time and can do better again next start. Follow CHOICE BRO and CENTRE PIVOT.
