Yard to the Post - Royal Randwick

Race Day: Royal Randwick on Saturday, 17 January 2015

The strong and genuine Burbero defied his doubters over a mile to win the feature race at Royal Randwick on a very hot and dry day.

Track records were almost broken by lower grade horses as the lush turf of "headquarters" baked in the 30 degrees temperatures. Judging by the crowd, more of a beach day than a day for the track!

Early on the card, the dominant Godolphin stable unveiled another quality two-year-old in Holler. The strapping son of Commands is one to watch over the longer carnival races.

We also got to see two classy rides from a couple of the younger jockeys. Jason Collett stole a march with Koroibete on an uninspiring bunch of middle-distance horses, leading by many lengths mid-race and holding on. It must have inspired Josh Parr two races later as he dashed to grab a break on the pack and guided home Nisroc at good odds (pictured above).

A full review is provided from the yard to the post. The complete guide from your team at the track.

All The Race Finishes

Race 1 TAB PLACE MULTI HANDICAP

'Bowman's patience pays off.'

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Good Project Chris Waller Hugh Bowman 4 59.5
2 Invinzabeel Mark Newnham James McDonald 6 54.0
3 I Am Impressed Mark Schmetzer Joshua Parr 7 56.0

In The Yard

Favourites impressed the most, GOOD PROJECT and I AM IMPRESSED had the power to sprint on a fast track. DOUBOS was a bit hot.

In The Running

BOMBER BROWN rolled to the lead and set a rolling FAIR TEMPO, from INVINZABEEL, PROXY and I AM IMPRESSED. GOOD PROJECT was restrained and ridden quietly and DOUBOS was slow to begin. The field strung out.

The Result

INVINZABEEL (2nd) moved up and took over, but GOOD PROJECT (1st) sped home well down the outside, just holding on late. I AM IMPRESSED (3rd) was just ok a few lengths behind.

The Interest

The track was fast alright! 1:33.78 was a rapid time. GOOD PROJECT enjoyed the conditions, it still seems that 1600m is as far as he wants though. INVINZABEEL is progressing well. Is I AM IMPRESSED really trying? Follow INVINZABEEL.

Race 2 HYLAND RACE COLOURS PLATE

'The royal blue dominates again.'

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Holler John O'Shea & Tom Charlton James McDonald 9 56.0
2 Encosta Line Chris Waller Hugh Bowman 13 56.0
3 Fireworks David & B Hayes & T Dabernig Tommy Berry 12 54.0

In The Yard

I'M NOT SURE was in good shape, but hot. IDEAL EXPRESS and UNSINKABLE paraded well. FLAUNTING and QUEEN'S CROWN lacked muscle/power GIGOLO was a bit keen and not 100% fit

In The Running

HOLLER jumped best and GIGOLO mustered speed to lead. They set a FAIR TEMPO from FLAUNTING and I'M NOT SURE just behind. FIREWORKS was slow to begin.

The Result

HOLLER (1st) surged clear to win from ENCOSTA LINE (2nd) who made ground from the pack. Not as much ground as FIREWORKS (3rd), who stormed home.

The Interest

HOLLER was big and strong in the yard, he just could be a horse for the 1400m classics over the Autumn. FIREWORKS was the most interesting run though, a lot of money came and the slow start hurt the hip pocket of punters. ENCOSTA LINE didn't work as hard early this time and finished well. Follow HOLLER. Forgive FIREWORKS.

Race 3 DRUMMOND GOLF HANDICAP

'Strength, speed and a will to win.'

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Palazzo Pubblico Matthew Smith Kerrin McEvoy 9 56.5
2 Rule the River Anthony Cummings Christian Reith 2 55.0
3 I Am Zelady Phillip Stokes Jason Collett 7 57.5

In The Yard

PALAZZO PUBBLICO and KIND HEART looked well, with strength for fast track. PINCHME looked ok, just bit of condition. ANGEL DANCER also looked well , but needs further ?

In The Running

PINCHME went to the lead and set a STEADY TEMPO, from PALAZZO PUBBLICO, RULE THE RIVER and SHELLEY'S GIRL. I AM ZELADY was slow again and went back.

The Result

PALAZZO PUBBLICO (1st) took over and quickened well, from RULE THE RIVER (2nd) who challenged gamely. I AM ZELADY (3rd) made good ground late.

The Interest

She was ready to go and did the job. PALAZZO PUBBLICO was suited by a fast track and she showed pure speed and power to win. Stablemate I AM ZELADY ran very well again, she will go for a spell now to develop. PINCHME had some condition and can improve. Follow PALAZZO PUBBLICO and I AM ZELADY.

Race 4 CELLARBRATIONS HANDICAP

'Bold tactics turn form on its head.'

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Koroibete Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Jason Collett 5 56.5
2 Casino Dancer Mike Van Gestel Serg Lisnyy 7 56.0
3 Georgey Aeroplane Chris Waller Hugh Bowman 6 58.0

In The Yard

OERTER was the best in the yard, SPECIFIC CHOICE is always pretty. GEORGEY AEROPLANE was fine, just a bit hot. WORLD WIDE lacked power. DEVISED was hot. KOROIBETE and SURGE AHEAD looked well , but are they trying

In The Running

KOROIBETE rolled to the front and set a STRONG TEMPO, strolling clear by a few lengths from PHRASES, GEORGEY AEROPLANE and SURGE AHEAD.

The Result

KOROIBETE (1st) kept it's rhythm and just held on, from CASINO DANCER (2nd), who closed well late. GEORGEY AEROPLANE (3rd) kept on solidly from OERTER (4th).

The Interest

What were the punters thinking! The money came for SPECIFIC CHOICE and he gave little once again. Daring tactics turned the form of KOROIBETE on its head. It was a race full of muddling and out of form horses though. CASINO DANCER is ever reliable, she enjoyed the hard conditions. GEORGEY AEROPLANE went OK. No follows or forgives.

Race 5 TAB REWARDS MILE

'The Baker bus rolls on for another win.'

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Burbero Bjorn Baker Brodie Loy 9 54.0
2 You'll Never Chris Waller James McDonald 6 54.0
3 Single Craig Carmody Ms Winona Costin 1 54.0

In The Yard

Nice strong types. MONTON, SINGLE and YOU'LL NEVER impressed. BURBERO looked well, but ' nuggety' , 1600m a risk? CHOICE BRO looked fitter

In The Running

SPACECRAFT rolled to the front from BLACK JAG, but MONTON was stuck wide and strode up to the lead early on. A STRONG TEMPO resulted.

The Result

BURBERO (1st) loomed down the outside and hit the front early, holding off YOU'LL NEVER (2nd ), who ran on through the pack. SINGLE (3rd) was solid to the line a few lengths behind.

The Interest

The strong speed helped the two favourites and they put a margin on the rest. BURBERO is racing in great form and probably doesn't want an inch further than 1600m, especially on a softer track. MONTON paraded better and was brave. CHOICE BRO was backed, missed the start and stuck to the inside. Follow YOU'LL NEVER, BURBERO, SINGLE. Forgive MONTON and CHOICE BRO.

Race 6 RANVET HANDICAP

'Parr shows five star skills.'

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Nisroc Ron Quinton Joshua Parr 3 57.0
2 Mardi Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Tommy Berry 8 56.5
3 Adorabeel Joseph Pride Hugh Bowman 9 55.5

In The Yard

AMAZON, NISROC and ADORABEEL paraded best. BERRIMILLA looked 95% fit now. MARDI looked ok, just a bit hot. HOLY DELUSIONS looked well. FIRST CLASS TICKET, BERMUDA BLU, ABSOLUTELYANYTHING lacked power

In The Running

FIRST CLASS TICKET went to the lead from MARDI and they set a STEADY TEMPO until NISROC whipped up to take an early lead mid-race, stealing a few lengths on the pack.

The Result

NISROC (1st) held on, from a game MARDI (2nd), who stuck on to the line. ADORABEEL (3rd) ran on well from the back.

The Interest

Muddling tactics cost backers of the favourite, who is just a bit one-paced. NISROC paraded well, as did ADORABEEL, who has come back in great fashion - she caught the eye. Pride has got her settling better too. Follow MARDI and ADORABEEL.

Race 7 JAMES BOAG'S PREMIUM HANDICAP

'A tough on-pacer steals the prize.'

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Brettan Anthony Cummings Blake Shinn 12 57.5
2 Sinjoren John O'Shea & Tom Charlton James McDonald 15 58.0
3 God's in Him Michael, John & Wayne Hawkes Tommy Berry 4 55.5

In The Yard

FUERZA, SINJOREN, GOD'S IN HIM, PROPER MADAM and TIMELY REMINDER paraded best. SAINTLY LAD and JUANTORENA looked well , but a bit hot. WINE'N'DINE didn't impress

In The Running

BRETTAN and SINJOREN took up the running and set a STEADY TEMPO. PROPER MADAM was stuck wide with no cover, racing a bit keenly.

The Result

BRETTAN (1st) picked up and fought off SINJOREN (2nd) after they dominated the tempo. GOD'S IN HIM (3rd) sprinted home well.

The Interest

The tempo helped, but SINJOREN and BRETTAN are still racing well. Following SINJOREN may be a safer bet, Anthony Cummings is not known for his horses having long preparations. GOD'S IN HIM put in a great run again. Forgive some of those that got back and PROPER MADAM, who was wide. Follow GOD'S IN HIM. Forgive PROPER MADAM.

Race 8 TAB.COM.AU HANDICAP

'Baker keeps the good times coming.'

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Coolring Joe Cleary Hugh Bowman 5 55.5
2 Pajaro Peter & Paul Snowden Thomas Huet 10 54.5
3 Marianne Leon & Troy Corstens Blake Shinn 3 58.0

In The Yard

CASUAL CHOICE, MARIANNE and FIELD MARSHALL paraded best. COOLRING looked ok, but bit smaller. FORGET was ok. MAGIC DALLAS looked well, but lacked power. DEFINE was too lean for 1200m on a fast track.

In The Running

NOTHING LIKE LUCA went to the front and set a FAIR TEMPO from BIG BONANZA and COOLRING just in behind. CASUAL CHOICE was trapped wide and strode forward with no cover.

The Result

COOLRING (1st) came off heels and quickened nicely to win, from PAJARO (2nd), who finished strongly down the outside. MARIANNE (3rd) maintained her run to the line.

The Interest

COOLRING went to a new level again, a horse that is racing right at his peak for a stable that has never gone better. PAJARO's effort was the most amazing run though given he's a tough miler/middle-distance type that is sure to get better over much further than 1200m. The money in the bookies ring suggests that Gai has him flying. MARIANNE produced a solid effort and CASUAL CHOICE had no luck from the wide barrier with the apprentice on board. Follow COOLRING and PAJARO. Forgive CASUAL CHOICE.
