Yard to the Post @ Rosehill Gardens
Race Day: Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, 30 May 2015
There was no doubting it was Winter at Rosehill today, a cool chill in the air and small crowd making the Autumn Carnival feel like it was a long time ago.
The quality of the on-track action was good for this time of year though, some fringe Carnival gallopers taking the opportunity while the better horses are in the spelling paddock.
One of those is the swooping sprinter YOU'LL NEVER, who Waller has progressed through the grades over the last two seasons. He was too strong in the end for RAIN AFFAIR and AERONAUTICAL, two sprinting veterans that couldn't break a long period out of the winner's stall.
The track played to horses OFF RAILS as expected, with a 'lane' a few horses off the fence seeming like the best place to be.
A race-by-race review, from the yard to the post, will be on-line Sunday at 9am.

Press Statement held off Shards to win
In The Yard
PRESS STATEMENT looked fit enough, a scopey horse with more development to come. MY COLLEAGUE was fitter again this time. DIZZY DIVA a little on toes on début.
In The Running
PRESS STATEMENT jumped best and pressed forward to set a STEADY TEMPO with SHARDS on his outside. MY COLLEAGUE and OVER THE AIR settled in behind. SO WILLIE raced fiercely with his head up.
The Result
PRESS STATEMENT (1st) controlled the race in the lead responded to the whip well to hold off the challenge of SHARDS (2nd). SO WILLIE (3rd) ran on ok from the back.
The Interest
Jimmy Cassidy controlled this one, making an early decision to roll to the front on PRESS STATEMENT. He's a promising type with more to give and there's a chance Doomben will be his next stop. SHARDS was very honest chasing, putting a margin on the rest of the pack. SO WILLIE wasn't suited on the day (over-raced and got back off a STEADY TEMPO), while the well-backed MY COLLEAGUE was disappointing. Follow PRESS STATEMENT.

Missvonn moved up on the inside and strode clear
In The Yard
CARRY ON SINGING, ROYAL ADVENTURE, MISSVON and BUBBLES’N’BOATS all parade in good fashion. WHITE DOVE fine, but bit unsettled kicking out.
In The Running
ROYAL ADVENTURE jumped best to an uncontested lead before Jim Cassidy moved forward on BUBBLES’N’BOATS after being caught wide and a FAIR TEMPO was set up. MISSVONN and WHITE DOVE had the trail behind the leaders.
The Result
MISSVONN (1st) stuck to the inside of ROYAL ADVENTURE (2nd) and drew clear in the run to the line. BUBBLES’N’BOATS (3rd) stuck on for third ahead of WHITE DOVE (4th), which failed to finish the race off.
The Interest
MISSVONN was patiently ridden in behind and showed her class, streaking away from the field. She had way too much stamina for this group of mares and can progress to better grades, especially if the tracks stay wet (a smaller type). Jimmy Cassidy was a bit aggressive on BUBBLES’N’BOATS after being stuck wide, she would have finished 2nd with even luck. WHITE DOVE didn't hit the line at all and wasn't happy in the parade ring, it might be time for the paddock for her. Follow MISSVONN. Forgive BUBBLES’N’BOATS.

3 | Romantic Time | Chris Waller | Jason Collett | 6 | 54.5 |
Lucy's Look took off early in a slowly run race
In The Yard
All the fillies were well-presented fillies, a credit to trainers. ALEGRIA looks very classy, with length to her frame and good definition.
In The Running
SHEEZALADY set a STEADY TEMPO from FILL ME UP which moved forward after racing wide without cover. MODESTY was in behind with ROMANTIC TIME on its outside racing keenly. BERRY DELICIOUS was slowish off the inside gate.
The Result
SHEEZALADY kicked in the straight off the Steady Tempo, but the swoopers came. LUCY’S LOOK (1st) swept down the outside while BERRY DELICIOUS (2nd) made ground up the inside. ROMANTIC TIME (3rd) stuck on after a wide run.
The Interest
On the turn, the first two home were at the back of the pack, along with ALEGRIA. Rory Hutchings on LUCY’S LOOK quickened around ALEGRIA and the filly sustained her effort, obviously enjoying the trip back to Rosehill after two Warwick Farm races. BERRY DELICIOUS is racing in great form and deserves a win. Don't be too harsh on ALEGRIA, she has the scope to get longer distances and will be very hard to beat over a mile next start (as long as there is an honest tempo). Follow ALEGRIA, BERRY DELICIOUS and LUCY'S LOOK.

Ecuador dominated from start to finish
In The Yard
INTIMATE MOMENT and DARCI MAGIC both very well in yard. PHEIDON solidly built, the wet a risk? PAEDEROS lacks scope for this distance
In The Running
ECUADOR crossed to lead PAEDEROS , striding clear to set a FAIR TEMPO. PHRASES raced in behind without cover, with DANCHAI along the rail.
The Result
ECUADOR (1st) got rolling and raced clear in the straight. SLOW PACE (2nd) saved ground along inside and was strong to the line. DANCHAI (3rd) stuck on.
The Interest
Danny Beasley rated ECUADOR perfectly in front, reminding us all of what a great front running jockey he is. The Waterhouse galloper is a tough type that relished the wet track. SLOW PACE bounced back after showing promise in a recent trial, while the 'one-paced' REIGNING and DARCI MAGIC got too far back and couldn't make up the ground - they can both do better this time. Looking at the run of INTIMATE MOMENT, it might have been one too many times to the well for her. She deserves a break now. Follow ECUADOR, REIGNING and DARCI MAGIC.

You'll Never stormed past Rain Affair for the second time
In The Yard
Classy horses. RAIN AFFAIR and SKIP TOWN the most powerful, so the last 50m is going to be a risk. All others well. RUGGED CROSS only small in comparison.
In The Running
RAIN AFFAIR jumped quickly as usual and steadily built up the speed, setting a FAIR TEMPO overall. SKIP TOWN led the chasing, from MIGHTY LUCKY and DIVERTIRE.
The Result
YOU’LL NEVER (1st) burst through a gap at the 300m and kept going, beating MIGHTY LUCKY (2nd), who stuck on well. RUGGED CROSS (3rd) ran on late.
The Interest
RAIN AFFAIR was well-backed and set a less frantic speed in-front this time, but he couldn't hold on. Perhaps the OFF RAILS bias didn't help... will Pride have another throw at the stumps this Winter? YOU’LL NEVER made it back-to-back wins as he surged home from midfield, a horse with the ability to sustain a long run to the line. MIGHTY LUCKY wondered around a bit as he does and RUGGED CROSS is racing in great heart at the moment (back to Randwick better?). EIGELSTEIN returned in good shape and is one to watch over the coming weeks. Follow YOU'LL NEVER

3 | Aerobar | Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou | Christian Reith | 10 | 55.5 |
Savoureux sprinted while Kaepernick wavered
In The Yard
Sprinters parade in light drizzle. BASCULE well first-up, but not powerful. KAEPERNICK good and AEROBAR ready to run a race first-up.
In The Running
CROOKED BLAZE led out at a FAIR TEMPO from AEROBAR with MR MANHATTAN inside of GRUNDERZEIT. BASCULE missed start by two lengths.
The Result
KAEPERNICK (2nd) loomed up at the 200m mark and look set to run past them before SAVOUREUX (1st) burst through a gap late. AEROBAR (3rd) stuck on from on-pace.
The Interest
The punters had the race down two KAEPERNICK and BASCULE, but it was the sharp sprint of SAVOUREUX that won the race with Tim Clark pushing the button at the right time. KAEPERNICK loomed ominously but couldn't go on with it over the last 100m (not 100% genuine?). AEROBAR looked well first-up and held her racing style, an on-pace 'grinder'. GRUNDERZEIT got squeezed in the run home and finished close enough. BASCULE looked well, but was poor. Follow SAVOUREUX, KAEPERNICK and AEROBAR.

3 | Georgey Aeroplane | Chris Waller | Rory Hutchings | 9 | 56.5 |
Vergara was never in doubt for Taylor Marshall
In The Yard
GREAT ESTEEM very well, but only small. HOLLYWOOD BOUND and ROLE MODEL also good in yard. LUNAR RISE most strength. Compact VERGARA OK if she gets the distance.
In The Running
VERGARA sped through to lead at a FAIR TEMPO, from ROLE MODEL on her outside in a well strung out field. GREAT ESTEEM and LUNAR RISE ran along in behind. MR ONE ELEVEN slow to begin. GOSH was restrained early.
The Result
VERGARA (1st) held off all challengers in the run to the line as she led all the way to break the heart of ROLE MODEL (2nd), who chased gamely but was no match. GEORGEY AEROPLANE (3rd) closed late from back in the pack.
The Interest
VERGARA began well and Taylor Marshall used the light weight to his advantage and kicked away in the straight for a dominant win. Simply too good! ROLE MODEL was honest as always, while GEORGEY AEROPLANE made up ground out wide and was a nice effort first-up. LUNAR RISE took off before the turn on a long run, he drifted in the market and didn't seem at his best today. HOLLYWOOD BOUND was even on a track that isn't ideal for him. Follow VERGARA and GEORGEY AEROPLANE.

3 | Moral Victory | Tim Martin | Tim Clark | 2 | 54.5 |
Aussie Love Sport kept lifting to just win
In The Yard
SENTA DE NOCHE, EARNEST ERNEST, MORAL VICTORY and IMPULSIVE SPIRIT best in yard. TURBULENT JET and SENSE AND REASON both leaner backmarkers.
In The Running
SENTA DE NOCHE burned to the lead from KING COBIA setting a STRONG TEMPO. MORAL VICTORY took the trail with TWO BLUE on his outside.
The Result
MORAL VICTORY (3rd) eased off the rails to hit the lead, before AUSSIES LOVE SPORT (1st) and TURBULENT JET (2nd) drove to the line together in a bobbing finish.
The Interest
Lots of good efforts here, it was the horses suited on the 'speed map' that did best. AUSSIES LOVE SPORT (nice trail) sustained a strong effort right to the line and edged out TURBULENT JET, who hit the line well again after getting back in the race. MORAL VICTORY (nice trail) hit the lead early, but had used up too much petrol by that stage. ROCKALONG, SENSE AND REASON and a few others warmed up well to the line. IMPULSIVE SPIRIT was always trapped wide and SENTA DE NOCHE could have done without the OFF RAILS bias. Follow AUSSIES LOVE SPORT, TURBULENT JET and SENSE AND REASON. Forgive IMPULSIVE SPIRIT (never on track).
