Yard to the Post @ Tatt's Cup Day

Race Day: Royal Randwick on Saturday, 17 October 2015

It was a beautiful Spring day at Royal Randwick and the perfectly presented RULING DYNASTY shone in the yard. Young horseman James Cummings guided the four-year-old through to the day's feature race and his tough stayer did the rest, prevailing from Chris Waller's JUNOOB. A training effort Bart would have been proud of.

Spring riches south of the border could be next on the agenda, but he did have a very big weight pull from the other gallopers in the race. PRINCE CHERI (3rd) sprinted best from on-pace after a muddling stop and start tempo over the 2,400 metres, with riderless SASENKILE dashing around the field mid-race.

The race favourite BEATEN UP (5th) was slow to begin and over-raced at the back; yet another unlucky effort for the towering galloper, who keeps his 'non-winner' tag.

A full review, from the yard the post, is provided below.

Race 1 CITY TATTERSALLS CLUB VICTORY VEIN PLATE

From Armidale to the big smoke

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Miss Amajardan Jenny Graham Thomas Huet 2 55.0
2 Morton's Fork Lindsey Smith Tim Clark 5 57.0
3 Pyx Chamber John O'Shea Sam Clipperton 3 57.0

In The Yard

PYX CHAMBER looked solid and robust, will 1000m be too short? DIVINE ACTION and GLAMOUR GAL are both neat, speedy fillies. Miss AMAJARDAN looked well, with enough POWER in frame.

In The Running

ISTHMIAN led from MISS AMAJARDAN and set a rolling FAIR tempo. FLASHFIBIAN and REVERENCE over-raced at the back, with DIVINE ACTION stuck wide with no cover

The Result

MISS AMAJARDAN (1st) maintained her speed for a good win, beating home MORTONS FORK (2nd) who chased well. PYX CHAMBER (3rd) surged home late to just catch ISTHMIAN (4th). The margins were big.

The Interest

You could be forgiven for thinking the Armidale form wouldn't stand up, but MISS AMAJARDAN paraded every bit as well as the favourites and did the job in style. She was bought for just $6,500! Good margins suggest the form will stack up, MORTON'S FORK getting clear of the rest. PYX CHA,MBER will get better over further. FLASHFIBIAN did well enough after misbehaving in the run, a nice horse that's still learning. Follow MISS AMAJARDAN, MORTON'S FORK and PYX CHAMBER (over further).

Race 2 CITY TATTERSALLS CLUB SPRING HANDICAP

All smooth sailing for this More Than Ready colt

steady tempo
Bias: Fair

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Montauk Graham Browney Rory Hutchings 3 60.0
2 Gone to Paris Paul Perry Thomas Huet 6 56.5
3 Lieder Michael Hickmott Sam Clipperton 1 56.0

In The Yard

LIEDER and SCHOPENHAUER are very solid, reliable types. FEAST FOR EYES looked well in the yard, with a shining coat as they head out. DOC HOLLIDAY will be sticking on, but does he need further?

In The Running

FEAST FOR EYES was a touch keen early and led GONE TO PARIS at a STEADY TEMPO with MONTAUK and SCHOPENHAUER settling just off the speed. DOC HOLLIDAY was slow out of the gates, while LIEDER was squeezed and got shuffled back.

The Result

GONE TO PARIS (2nd) sprinted early in the straight, only to be worn down by MONTAUK (1st) who won convincingly in the end. They drew clear from LIEDER (3rd).

The Interest

MONTAUK appreciated the quick back-up and enjoyed open space once straightening, wearing down GONE TO PARIS near the line. GONE TO PARIS had every chance and kicked off the favourable tempo, however did not stay the distance. DOC HOLLIDAY over raced, while LIEDER got shuffled back and was not suited in the conditions. No follows or forgives.

Race 3 BARTIER PERRY LAWYERS HANDICAP

Waller runners too good again

steady tempo
Bias: Fair

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Good Project Chris Waller Sam Clipperton 9 58.0
2 Foreign Prince David Payne Regan Bayliss 3 58.5
3 Lady Le Fay Chris Waller Rory Hutchings 5 56.5

In The Yard

GOOD PROJECT and TESTASHADOW both looked well, with power to sprint, but 1600m a risk. FOREIGN PRINCE and ORION LOVE are free striding on-pacers, can stick on. LADY LE FAY looked fine first up, she can stay, is this too short?

In The Running

FOREIGN PRINCE rolled to the lead and set a STEADY tempo, from GOOD PROJECT on his outside. TERONADO and ORION LOVE were slowish and got back. FOREIGN PRINCE got rolling on the turn.

The Result

GOOD PROJECT (1st) cruised up and sprinted to the lead, from FOREIGN PRINCE (2nd), who stuck on. LADY LE FAY (3rd) made good ground from the back.

The Interest

GOOD PROJECT got the nice run on a STEADY speed and showed his class. He deserved the win, but 1600m is as far as he wants. The other run to follow was from Waller again, LADY LE FAY winding up late. She has the scope to go on and win a good 2000m race over the Carnival. FOREIGN PRINCE solid as always, TERONADO and ORION LOVE disappointing. Follow LADY LE FAY (up in distance).

Race 4 TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP

A strong win for a Queanbeyan mare in town

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Grand Proposal Neville Layt Ms Winona Costin 5 58.0
2 Invienna Kris Lees Mitchell Bell 15 57.0
3 Onemoregypsy Kurt Goldman Sam Clipperton 9 54.0

In The Yard

GRAND PROPOSAL looked leaner and a bit hot, not ideal. Most looked well in the yard, no knock INVIENNA, MADAM FRAN, MELBERRA STAR, ONE SON, HESCO GOLD and FLASH IN THE DARK. All looked strong and fit. TIGER BY THE TALE looked good, but a bit hot towards the end of the yard.

In The Running

ONE SON was urged forward and set a FAIR to STRONG TEMPO from MADAM FRAN with ONEMOREGYPSY and DASHIE DE LUXE a pair behind

The Result

GRAND PROPOSAL (1st) finished best and hit the line well to defeat both INVIENNA (2nd) and (ONEMOREGYPSY) in a bunched fini

The Interest

GRAND PROPOSAL appreciated the honest tempo and finished best over the top, showing good surge to the line. She is a leaner type that needed the tempo to suit. INVIENNA made her run with ONEMOREGYPSY, and they both stuck on well. ONE SON fought on from the lead hard against the rails, as did DASHIE DE LUXE from on pace. Follow GRAND PROPOSAL

Race 5 CITY TATTERSALLS CLUB HANDICAP

The narrowest of victories

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Moral Victory Tim Martin Christian Reith 10 57.5
2 Wild 'n' Famous Peter & Paul Snowden Ms Winona Costin 4 57.5
3 Telepathic Chris Waller Rory Hutchings 1 61.0

In The Yard

PYTHAGOREAN not 100% fit just yet. Most looked well in the yard, including MORAL VICTORY, who has early speed and a turn-of-foot.

In The Running

MORAL VICTORY went to the lead and set a STEADY to FAIR tempo, from WILD'N'FAMOUS, who pushed out off it's back. PERFECT WEAPON was a touch keen in the box seat with TARANGOWER on his outside. BERRIMILLA was keen in midfield. TELEPATHIC was on the rails.

The Result

MORAL VICTORY (1st) and WILD'N'FAMOUS (2nd) knuckled down to a two-horse war, with MORAL VICTORY getting the nose in late. TELEPATHIC (3rd) made good ground late to just miss out too.

The Interest

Once MORAL VICTORY and WILD'N'FAMOUS got control it was always going to be hard to run them down, MORAL VICTORY just ramping it enough to beat home WILD'N'FAMOUS, who is solid but no world beater. Clearly TELEPATHIC was the run of the race though, a mare that can sprint well fresh. The question is, can she do it second-up? Don't be too harsh on some of the back-markers, a more honest tempo and easier grade could see a big form reversal. No follows or forgives.

Race 6 CITY TATTERSALLS CLUB BRIAN CROWLEY STAKES

Hellish scenes for favourite backers

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Counterattack Chris Waller Jason Collett 6 58.0
2 Spill the Beans Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou Joshua Parr 10 56.0
3 Hellbent Darren Weir Tye Angland 4 56.0

In The Yard

Classy and ready to go, HELLBENT is nicely put together. A few other strong types look good, including COUNTERATTACK, SAMPEAH, SOOBOOG and SPILL THE BEANS

In The Running

SPILL THE BEANS was ridden forward as they flew along at a STRONG TEMPO from SOOBOOG who sat outside SECRET SAGA. ALART raced wide without cover.

The Result

SPILL THE BEANS (2nd) kicked at the top of the straight, only for COUNTERATTACK (1st) to swoop to win over the final stages. HELLBENT (3rd) worked home after not finding much luck in the straight

The Interest

COUNTERATTACK was well weighted and swooped home off the Strong Tempo to get there late. He raced in blinkers for the first time and won the race easily in the end. SPILL THE BEANS gave a great sight up the straight, also in blinkers for first time. The story of the race may rest with the well backed HELLBENT who couldn't push out up the straight and is still learning. Follow the top three. Forgive ALART.

Race 7 CITY TATTERSALLS CLUB LIGHTNING

A warrior horse fights on best

fair tempo

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Dothraki Peter & Paul Snowden Tye Angland 2 59.0
2 That's a Good Idea Peter & Paul Snowden Joshua Parr 4 59.0
3 Artlee Rebecca Dunn Mitchell Bell 1 54.0

In The Yard

THATS A GOOD IDEA and RUNWAY STAR both looked strong and well in the yard, the most impressive of the bunch. ATMOSPHERICAL was also ready to go, 1100 suits. The roughie SKIP COURSE is a big strapping boy too, no knock!

In The Running

THAT'S A GOOD IDEA rolled to the lead from CRAFTINESS and DOTHRAKI found the box seat. ATMOSPHERICAL was awkward to jump and moved up wide with no cover.

The Result

THAT'S A GOOD IDEA (2nd) fought on, but DOTHRAKI (1st) came off its back and ran on best. ARTLEE (3rd) burst through a closely bunched pack late.

The Interest

All honours to DOTHRAKI and THAT'S A GOOD IDEA, getting to the leading positions and holding them all off. CRAFTINESS isn't reliable any more it seems, he just dropped back late - a late betting plunge was a long way off the mark there! ARTLEE impressed for the future and ATMOSPHERICAL had no luck. Follow ARTLEE. Forgive ATMOSPHERICAL

Race 8 CITY TATTERSALLS CLUB CUP

A new staying dynasty awaits

steady tempo
Bias:

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Ruling Dynasty Darren Weir Tim Clark 1 54.0
2 Junoob Chris Waller Joshua Parr 4 59.5
3 Prince Cheri John O'Shea Jay Ford 10 56.5

In The Yard

Best in the yard, the big BEATEN UP, classy THE OFFER and RULING DYNASTY. LA AMISTAD and PRINCE CHERI look well, can improve and have turn-of-foot

In The Running

TREMEC dropped anchor early then set an overall STEADY to FAIR tempo from PRINCE CHERI who sat outside the lead with JUNOOB in behind. BEATEN UP missed the start, while SASENKILE threw the rider at the start and was declared a non-runner

The Result

RULING DYNASTY picked up late along the inside to get the better of JUNOOB, while PRINCE CHERI peaked on his run late

The Interest

Plenty of interest in the small field after the antics at the start with the James Cummings trained entire RULING DYNASTY stamping himself as a stayer with potential in a messy race. He got the better of JUNOOB who kept on well to the line. PRINCE CHERI had everything go his way and sprinted at the top of the straight only to weaken late. THE OFFER got rolling around the turn however the big weight looked to tell late, while the favourite BEATEN UP missed the start and over raced at the back, and was never going to be a factor from there. Forgive BEATEN UP.

Race 9 CITY TATTERSALLS CLUB NIVISON

A blanket finish to end the day

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Nayeli Peter & Paul Snowden Joshua Parr 3 56.0
2 Peace Force Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou Tye Angland 6 56.0
3 Miss Cover Girl Darren Weir Glen Colless 12 56.0

In The Yard

MISS COVER GIRL kicked the fence, out early, looked OK. PEACE FORCE, NAYELI and TREE OF JESSE ready to go in a very evenly matched race. SLOTS looked well, KRISTY LEE has power, but some condition.

In The Running

FRILL SEEKING went to the lead from FINE MIST, with MISS COVER GIRL in the box seat and PEACE FORCE on her outside. A STRONG to FAIR tempo was set up.

The Result

MISS COVER GIRL (3rd) moved up the inside and fought bravely, but PEACE FORCE (2nd) kept lifting and NAYELI (1st) ran on best from midfield. It was the narrowest of finishes and a big clump right behind them.

The Interest

The Snowdens did well to prepare NAYELI for a first-up win, she relished the firm track to just get there. Lots of other good runs in the race. Don't bee too harsh on FINE MIST after the leader took the gas out of her finishing sprint. SULTRY FEELING was a touch keen and got well back, she can improve next time. No Follows or Forgives.
