Yard to the Post @ Rosehill Gardens

Race Day: Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, 31 October 2015

Rosehill Gardens took a back seat to the Derby in Melbourne on a pleasant day in Sydney's west, the rain keeping at bay until after the last, unlike down south at Flemington.

An off-season meeting, it was a chance for jockeys and trainers to cash in on opportunities while the 'big guns' are away. Young Winona Costin and Jason Collett both rode doubles, while Thomas Huet made it four winning weekends in a row.

The most impressive performances came from WE'RE SURE (ridden by Costin), who surged up the inside late, and Snowden-trained ARTISTRY. The latter streaking away to score by a big margin, making it five wins from five starts with Huet on board.

In other races, the Tab Highway series was run and won by the Greg Bennett trained INVIENNA, and the country-trained ALART beat the city mares in another brave performance.

A full yard-to-the-post review is provided below.

Race 1 THE VIRIDIAN LIGHTBRIDGE PLATE

An All American winning filly salutes in the first

fair tempo

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Yankee Rose David Vandyke Jason Collett 6 54.5
2 Faraway Town Matthew Smith Jay Ford 3 54.5
3 Telperion John O'Shea & Tom Charlton Tim Clark 1 56.5

In The Yard

TELPERION and CLIFF big, strong types. PYX CHAMBER looks to have come on. KING OF WAR presents well

In The Running

TELPERION and PYX CHAMBER jumped best before KING OF WAR crossed to lead at a FAIR TEMPO. ANAUEL raced wide without cover. CLIFF was slow to begin.

The Result

YANKEE ROSE (1st) snuck up along the rail to draw clear from FARAWAY TOWN (2nd) who closed late from TELPERION (3rd) who held on to place after leading.

The Interest

YANKEE ROSE raced greenly and ran on strongly along the fence, winning well on debut. The daughter of All American hit the front at the 100m and did the rest on raw ability. She looks a nice type that could progress to the better mile races in the autumn. FARAWAY TOWN raced tightly in the straight and worked home well once clear. TELPERION was the only one of those on pace that stuck on and showed fight. KING OF WAR overdid it up front and was a spent force early in the straight (will now be spelled), as was PYX CHAMBER who faded from on pace. PITTSBURGH ran on strongly from the back. Follow the first two over the line. Forgive ANAUEL and KING OF WAR (respiratory distress).

Race 2 AMWU - NATIONAL HANDICAP

The quick back-up worked as Waller gets the Trifecta

strong tempo
Bias: Fair

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Dance of Heroes Chris Waller Joshua Parr 8 56.5
2 Quick Strike Chris Waller Tye Angland 9 56.5
3 Lady Le Fay Chris Waller Jason Collett 7 61.0

In The Yard

LADY LA FAYE strong SURGE. FAROLITOS has good tactical speed. QUICK STRIKE to enjoy the likely Fair Tempo.

In The Running

DANCE OF HEROES worked forward to cross LORD DE AIR and FAROLITOS on the rail at a FAIR to STRONG TEMPO.

The Result

DANCE OF HEROES (1st) rolled along and held off all challengers in the straight holding on to defeat QUICK STRIKE (2nd) and LADY LA FAYE (3rd) who just couldn't get there with the big weight.

The Interest

The change of tactics to go forward and lead worked landing a trifecta for Waller! DANCE OF HEROES ran them along on the quick back-up and held off all challengers in the run to the line. Not always genuine in his races, he seemed to put in today for jockey Josh Parr, who let him run at the 800m. QUICK STRIKE was called upon early in the straight and was flat out. LADY LA FAYE tried hard down the middle but could not pick up the winner with the big weight. JUST A BLUR and MARVELOUS CERAMIBO both raced tightly in the straight and never got a good crack. FAROLITOS weakened out of the race over the latter stages. Forgive MARVELOUS CERAMIBO and JUST A BLUR.

Race 3 BRADFORD SOUNDSCREEN HANDICAP

Jason Collett gets an early double

fair tempo

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Religify Chris Waller Jason Collett 1 54.0
2 Fine Mist Paul Murray Ms Winona Costin 6 57.5
3 Inz'n'out Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou Joshua Parr 5 58.0

In The Yard

HAUSMANN, INZ'N'OUT & FINE MIST all a little warm. RELIGIFY & MIGHTY LUCKY both fit & ready to go

In The Running

INZ'N'OUT jumped best and led at a STEADY to FAIR tempo from FINE MIST who raced wide without cover, while RELIGIFY held his position along the rail. AGENT over raced from the 1,000m.

The Result

The three leaders staged a battle down the straight only for RELIGIFY (1st) to lift best along the rails getting the bob over FINE MIST (2nd) who stuck on well after racing widest of the three edging out INZ'N'OUT for third.

The Interest

A great ride by Jason Collett (giving him an early double) got RELIGIFY home in the end, conserving the energy until the final strides. He did enough to keep INZ'N'OUT one off the fence, and had a fit horse under him in the end. FINE MIST dug in all the way after racing wide on-pace, and had the audacity to edge INZ'N'OUT into second. Of the others, the best of the closers was ZIN ZAN EDDIE who made up ground from last. Follow RELIGIFY. Forgive FINE MIST (wide, on-pace throughout)

Race 4 LIDORAN GROUP HANDICAP

Winona makes sure of it in the final strides

fair tempo

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 We're Sure Peter & Paul Snowden Ms Winona Costin 7 56.5
2 Perfect Dare Matthew Dunn Tim Clark 4 54.0
3 Lady Sniper Bjorn Baker Christian Reith 1 55.5

In The Yard

CHAMAREL a tough type. DINGHU MOUNTAIN looks fit after trials, however a little warm. MAGIC ALIBI nice and relaxed. LADY SNIPER a little on toes. PERFECT DARE a big, gross type.

In The Running

LADY SNIPER jumped best to lead PERFECT DARE at a FAIR to STRONG TEMPO. MAGIC ALIBI eased in behind to get some cover in behind. MAGIC ALIBI jumped in the air at the start and was then caught wide. WE'RE SURE was slow to begin.

The Result

LADY SNIPER (3rd) and PERFECT DARE (2nd) were under pressure straightening, however they rallied and looked set to fight it out until WE'RE SURE (1st) hit the line hard along the rail and got there in the shadows of the post.

The Interest

WE'RE SURE returned a gelding and looks to have plenty of upside after Winona Costin took him back to the inside and finished off best hard along the rail. He has a habit of not mustering early speed, and that was what unfolded, however his picked up well and will pay to follow. PERFECT DARE, a bigger type, didn't look to handle the turn all that well, while early leader LADY SNIPER gave a kick into the straight and stuck on ok to the line. BACHELOR HEIR was hard ridden to keep up before the turn and ground away down the outside. CHAMAREL failed to finish the race off. Follow WE'RE SURE and PERFECT DARE.

Race 5 TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP

Country owners dream of bigger things

fair tempo

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Invienna Kris Lees Ms Winona Costin 6 57.5
2 Ashjata Danny Williams Thomas Huet 10 55.0
3 Luxury Danny Williams Tye Angland 2 59.0

In The Yard

INVIENNA neat & efficient. CRICKLEWOOD a little on toes. ONE SON & LION OF AFRICA strong types

In The Running

ONE SON and THE BIG RIG both took advantage of inside gates and set a FAIR TEMPO up front. LION OF AFRICA raced wide on the speed without cover. CRICKLEWOOD overraced in the early stages.

The Result

INVIENNA (1st) joined in quickly 300m and held the others at bay with ASHJATA (2nd) running on well out wide and LUXYRY (3rd) weaving through late

The Interest

INVIENNA didn't quite get there a fortnight ago and deserved the victory with Winona Costin bringing up a winning double. She enjoyed a lovely run in behind the speed and sprinted best when asked. ASHJATA finished well out wide on the track after racing wide with cover. LUXURY was caught in a bit of traffic up the straight, however hit the line well at the finish. Of the others, TIGER BY THE TALE made up many lengths in the straight after coming from last. Follow The first three over the line

Race 6 BLACKTOWN WORKERS CLUB GROUP HANDICAP

The French artist strikes again

strong tempo
Bias: Fair

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Artistry Peter & Paul Snowden Thomas Huet 4 56.0
2 Telepathic Chris Waller Jason Collett 11 60.5
3 Tarangower Paul Messara & Leah Gavranich Jay Ford 2 56.5

In The Yard

NEVAGOTAVOTE coat shining. BERRIMILLA will show strong SURGE. PYTHAGOERAN a bold-striding type. TARANGOWER and HARRY HOTSPUR bigger types.

In The Running

NEVAGOTAVOTE was clearly best away leading HARRY HOTSPUR and PYTHAGOREAN at a STRONG tempo. THE IRON MAIDEN, TARANGOWER and BERRIMILLA were slow to begin, while MORAL VICTORY raced wide without cover.

The Result

ARTISTRY (1st) swept up out wide and drew clear over the final stages to defeat TELEPATHIC (2nd) who shifted off the rails in the straight and TARANGOWER (3rd) who ran on from mid field.

The Interest

Thomas Huet makes it 5 from 5 aboard ARTISTRY as he gave her a dream ride and won convincingly in the end. She had cover in behind the speed and was far too good and her confidence is high. TELEPATHIC settled last on the rails turning before jockey Jason Collett pushed well off the rails in the straight and ran on into the placings with TARANGOWER who did his best work late. Follow TARANGOWER and TELEPATHIC (both only second-up). Forgive MORAL VICTORY (wide throughout).

Race 7 CFMEU MINING & ENERGY DIVISION HANDICAP

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Alart Jan Bowen Greg Ryan 3 54.0
2 Press Report Kris Lees Christian Reith 5 58.0
3 Anyaas David & B Hayes & T Dabernig Ms Jess Taylor 7 57.5

In The Yard

KRISTY LEE strong & powerful. ALART holding fitness. MAGIC OF DREAMS coat glowing. Even bunch of mares

In The Running

MISS TENPINS was urged to the lead from LADY JIVAGO at a FAIR TEMPO with FRILL SEEKING in behind on the rail. MAGIC OF DREAMS started to put on a buck jumping display soon into the race and dropped back quickly mid race. FIFTYSHADESOFGREY was slow to begin.

The Result

MISS TENPINS (7th) kicked into the straight, however ALART (1st) sprinted quickly from the 250m to hold off ANYAAS (3rd) who stuck on well to the line from on-pace. PRESS REPORT (3rd) who ran on well out wide after racing in midfield.

The Interest

ALART was presented fit in the yard after the long preparation and continues to race at her peak. She got a little bit tired towards the end, but the race was won from the 200m when she sprinted quickly to the lead. ANYAAS stuck on ok and had every chance, as did PRESS REPORT who showed a return to some form running on into the placings. Forgive MAGIC OF DREAMS.

Race 8 JLL HANDICAP

Bias: Fair

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 I Can Rock Gary Portelli Tim Clark 5 56.0
2 Absalon Shane Marr Brodie Loy 10 60.0
3 Slots Grant Marshall Mr Lester Grace 1 59.0

In The Yard

FREEZE THE CHARGES holding her condition. I'M USAIN a speedy type. QUEEN OF KARIBA may need the run. No knock others

In The Running

FREEZE THE CHARGES knuckled on jumping, then crossed and led at a STRONG to FAIR TEMPO from I'M USAIN who kicked up along the rail, with SHADOW FORCE on it's outside. These three skipped a few lengths clear of the rest. MR ENTERTAINER was caught wide without cover. SLOTS was slow to begin and was urged into midfield, while ABSOLON was also slow to begin.

The Result

FREEZE THE CHARGES (9th) was in front for most of the straight before I CAN ROCK (1st) lengthened late to draw clear from the fast finishing ABSOLON (2nd) and SLOTS (3rd) which made ground along the rail.

The Interest

I CAN ROCK got the sit in behind the hot speed and pounced at the 100m putting the race away from a wall of runners in behind. ABSOLON was the eye-catcher of the race ad massive odds weaving through to hit the line strongly. SLOTS kept on well along the rail and rallied to the line. I'M USAIN was the best of those on-pace, sticking on ok to the line (losing it's off hind plate in running), while QUEENIAN finished strongly out wide. Forgive MR ENTERTAINER.

Race 9 VINCENTS FORENSIC ACCOUNTING HANDICAP

Always gamble on Tye

fair tempo

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Gamblestown Joseph Pride Tye Angland 8 59.0
2 Heavens Above Tim Martin Ms Winona Costin 3 57.5
3 Duca Valentinois James Cummings Tim Clark 7 57.0

In The Yard

LOFTY'S MENU and DUCA VALENTINOIS a little warm. TREE OF JESSE and HEAVENS ABOVE look well & relaxed

In The Running

PERFECT WEAPON worked forward to set a FAIR TEMPO from GOLD HORIZON who also crossed from an outside gate with WILD'N'FAMOUS and LOFTY'S MENU in behind. MURVATE missed the start. GAMBLESTOWN was posted wide without cover. MURVATE jumped in the air and lost ground (2L).

The Result

GAMBLESTOWN (1st) tracked into the straight after racing wide and toughed it out defeating HEAVENS ABOVE (2nd) which got the split at the 100m. They drew clear from DUCA VALENTINOIS (3rd) who just didn't finish off.

The Interest

A tough, tough win from GAMBLESTOWN who just never gave in after having a tough run with the big weight. This was only his fourth win, and the win was thoroughly deserved. HEAVENS ABOVE weaved through the field and burst through after racing tight to dive late. His run was full of merit and can be followed. DUCA VALENTINOIS was well backed during the week and did enough at his first Australian start. He will take a ton of benefit from the run, and just didn't finish the race off with his condition holding out in the end. BASCULE was held up from the 300m, however was not travelling like the winner. WILD'N'FAMOUS did not obtain clear running till the 100m. KISEKI DANE was held up multiple times from the 200m. Follow HEAVENS ABOVE and DUCA VALENTINOIS (over further). Forgive KISEKI DANE
