Yard to the Post | Tancred Stakes Day

Race Day: Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, 03 April 2021

The Rosehill Gardens track was the main protagonist on Tancred Stakes Day as eight of the nine winners positioned themselves on the rails during the run and four led from start to finish.

HUNGRY HEART (photo) was the only galloper not to find the rails at any stage, swooping home from the back to beat the favoured HARMONY ROSE in the Group 1 Vinery Stakes after Josh Parr had gone a touch too hard in the lead.

In the other Group 1 Cox Plate winner SIR DRAGONET returned to form with a dominant 2.3 length win over 2,400 metres after Glen Boss gave the import a perfect ride up the inside. SHE'S IDEEL, MIAMI BOUND and NICKAJACK CAVE all put in promising Sydney Cup trials running on from the back.

YAO DASH impressed winning the Doncaster Prelude by a big space and the progressive young two-year-old SAIF won the opening race by a widening margin too.

A full review from the yard to the post is provided below.

BiasON-PACE / RAILS IN RUN

Race 1 SCHWEPPERVESCENCE

fair tempo
Bias: on-pace , rails-6w in straight

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Saif Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes Craig Williams 1 58.0
2 Converge Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Tim Clark 5 57.0
3 Gin Martini John Sargent Regan Bayliss 18 54.0

In The Yard

SAIF a nice type, big and strong, more like a 3YO. CONRAD strong too and looking well. CONVERGE showing some improvement. READILY AVAILABULL didn't carry as much condition as others following the trip to Melbourne.

The Interest

SAIF found the right spot mid-race and was dominant in the end, a lovely big raw type with plenty of upside. Excuses for MR MOZART (very wide), WITH YOUR BLESSING (keen), CONRAD (wide) and FORGOT YOU (back, laid in), MR MOZART especially impressive after covering lots of extra ground with the on-rails bias against. GIN MARTINI and FLYING WITNESS found the line well suggesting further would suit.

Race 2 XXXX NEVILLE SELLWOOD STAKES

slow tempo
Bias: on-pace , rails-6w in straight

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Shared Ambition Chris Waller James McDonald 8 55.0
2 Entente Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Tim Clark 3 55.5
3 Master Of Wine Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes Kerrin McEvoy 4 55.5

In The Yard

Most fine in the yard, MASTER OF WINE looking better now third-up and PATHS OF GLORY progressing into the prep. SHARED AMBITION looking fine at his home track for the first time.

The Interest

This race was over in the first 300m when James McDonald found the lead with stablemate MR SATCHMO on his outside. They controlled the tempo and SHARED AMBITION showed his dash to win well from a brave ENTENTE chasing behind. MASTER OF WINE did enough and probably would have enjoyed more tempo.

Race 3 SIGNACE TULLOCH STAKES

steady tempo : long sprint
Bias: on-pace , rails-6w in straight

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Yaletown Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Tim Clark 10 56.0
2 Prompt Prodigy Thomas Sadler Ms Rachel King 5 56.0
3 Young Werther Danny O'Brien Tom Marquand 4 56.0

In The Yard

YALETOWN a big-striding type and he looked well in the yard. FAVREAU a nice staying type in good shape and CHERRY TORTONI a bit more muscular than the last time he was in Sydney.

The Interest

A bunched finish and you have to give a couple of lengths to those that settled 2W; YOUNG WERHTER (3rd 0.9L) doing especially well after getting flushed out 600m from home and FAVREAU (4th 1.1L) was solid to the line. Even ZAKSPEED and JUST A JEDI (on heels late) warmed up nicely at big odds.

Race 4 CANADIAN CLUB EMANCIPATION STAKES

fair tempo : long sprint
Bias: on-pace , rails-6w in straight

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Nimalee Matthew Smith Ms Rachel King 1 54.0
2 Greysful Glamour Mark Newnham James McDonald 5 56.0
3 Quantum Mechanic Mick Price & Michael Kent (Jnr) Joshua Parr 4 56.0

In The Yard

No clear knocks in the yard. GREYSFUL GLAMOUR well after last start failure and NIMALEE fine following the slight set back.

The Interest

NIMALEE and GREYSFUL GLAMOUR both good as the market expected, the track conditions set up beautifully for them. Strong runs from QUANTUM MECHANIC and RICH HIPS against the bias after settling two wide.

Race 5 E GROUP SECURITY STAR KINGDOM STAKES

fair tempo
Bias: on-pace , rails-6w in straight

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Signore Fox Peter & Paul Snowden James McDonald 1 55.5
2 Wisdom Of Water Annabel Neasham Jason Collett 7 54.0
3 Roheryn James Cummings Damien Oliver 2 58.0

In The Yard

CALIFORNIA ZIMBOL big, strong and well second-up. WISDOM OF WATER a touch warm and not as much condition as some others. PANDEMIC also getting a bit hot. BRANDENBURG not a dry track 1200m type.

The Interest

A brilliant ride from James McDonald got the fresh horse SIGNORE FOX home in a race that had a few hard luck stories. WISDOM OF WATER strong after settling 2W (bias against), EASY EDDIE blocked, DEPRIVE blocked, OUTBACK BARBIE blocked, PANDEMIC blocked and 2W, CORUSCATE bled and BRANDENURG 2/5 lame. Run the race a few times and you probably get a few different results.

Race 6 VINERY STUD STAKES

strong tempo
Bias: on-pace , rails-6w in straight

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Hungry Heart Chris Waller Kerrin McEvoy 5 56.0
2 Harmony Rose Mark Newnham Joshua Parr 1 56.0
3 Impecunious Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young Damien Oliver 9 56.0

In The Yard

HUNGRY HEART and HARMONY ROSE looking fine, both more efficient types in the yard. PRINCESS RHAYENYS a real staying type.

The Interest

HARMONY ROSE really rolled along and lost no admirers after Josh Parr seemed to go too fast in the lead. The final 600m was just 37.5 seconds as HUNGRY HEART became the only horse to settle "two wide" and win on the day. IMPECUNIOUS very solid running on and looks an Oaks contender too. A strange run from PERSONAL, who was gone on the turn before keeping on again late. If they can get her more comfortable around a right-hand turn she's capable of repeating her spring Oaks victory from a few months ago.

Race 7 KIA TANCRED STAKES

steady tempo : long sprint
Bias: on-pace , rails-6w in straight

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Sir Dragonet Ciaron Maher Glen Boss 1 59.0
2 She's Ideel Ciaron Maher Jason Collett 10 57.0
3 Miami Bound Danny O'Brien Ms Rachel King 13 56.5

In The Yard

SIR DRAGONET a very classy type in good shape now. MELODY BELLE a touch warm in the yard.

The Interest

SIR DRAGONET got the breaks after a nice inside run and perfect ride, the imported stayer much too strong for them over the final 200m. Nice runs from MIAMI BOUND (settled 2W, held up slightly) and NICKAJACK CAVE (held up) ahead of the Sydney Cup. THE CHOSEN ONE a complete forgive after settling wide and MIRAGE DANCER hit a wall after getting checked on the turn. SOUTHERN FRANCE, SHE'S IDEEL, TOFFEE TONGUE and SPIRIT RIDGE all right in the mix for the Sydney Cup too.

Race 8 ACY SECURITIES DONCASTER PRELUDE

strong tempo
Bias: on-pace , rails-6w in straight

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Yao Dash Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Craig Williams 2 53.0
2 Mister Sea Wolf Chris Waller Joshua Parr 9 59.5
3 Bottega Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou Kerrin McEvoy 16 53.5

In The Yard

Another even yard. ROCK improving into prep, but maybe one more run away from full fitness. BOTTEGA looking fit second-up.

The Interest

This was impressive. YAO DASH might have had the bias in his favour leading on the rails, but he ran flat 11.5 sections for most of the way and went clear by 3.5L in the end. A big statement ahead of The Doncaster. MISTER SEA WOLF, BOTTEGA, ROCK, ARCHEDMUS, DAWN PASSAGE and SUBEDAR all ran pretty well considering they settled 2W with the bias against.

Race 9 CLEANAWAY HANDICAP

strong tempo
Bias: on-pace , rails-6w in straight

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Starspangled Rodeo Bjorn Baker Joshua Parr 3 59.0
2 Great News Kim Waugh Jay Ford 13 55.5
3 Nudge Chris Waller James McDonald 17 56.5

In The Yard

STARSPANGLED RODEO, GRET NEWS and NUDGE all looking well. ROYAL CELEBRATION perhaps 90% fit first-up. AKARI looking like she had done some work.

The Interest

STARPSPANGLED RODEO brave after leading at a STRONG tempo, but GREAT NEWS was the run of the race. She worked early, settled in the two wide line (bias against) and fought like a tiger. NUDGE good from the back (settled 2W) too and ROYAL CELEBRATION very unlucky getting held up for most of the straight.
