Yard to the Post | Warwick Farm

Race Day: Warwick Farm on Wednesday, 14 September 2022

The track played well today at Warwick Farm on a GOOD 4 surface with the rail out 5 metres. Impressive first-up wins from WILLINGA RUFIO and DEMOCRACY MANIFEST were the highlights, WILLINGA RUFIO leading them a merry dance before striding clear to win by an easy 2.7 lengths in the Acrobat @ Coolmore Handicap over 1,600 metres.

As always at this time of year there were a few younger progressive types going around in the Maidens to follow into the carnival.

A review of the card by Mike Wood is provided below.

Race 1 VINERY STALLIONS HANDICAP

fair tempo
Bias: Fair

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Rediener Chris Waller Hugh Bowman 1 59.0
2 Ring Ahoy Ray Hartley William Pike 2 56.5
3 Surf On Turf Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Tim Clark 3 57.0

In The Yard

Most of them parading well, especially STYLISED who looks to have real quality. EARL OF DEVON a smaller-framed horse and looking a little bit new in the yard. ZAKIYYA progressing nicely with perhaps a bit more improvement to come.

The Interest

Some very strong runs in this race. REDIENER, RING AHOY, SURF ON TURF, BUILLT and STYLISED (stormed home) all hit the line strongly. STYLISED clearly a horse to follow up in distance next start.

Race 2 FURPHY PLATE

fair tempo
Bias: Fair

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Great Barrier Reef Chris Waller Hugh Bowman 7 57.0
2 Tribeca Star Matthew Dunn Brenton Avdulla 3 57.0
3 Pereille James Cummings James McDonald 4 57.0

In The Yard

ON THE BEACH a speedy looking sprinter that is ready to go. GREAT BARRIER REEF a nice improver second-up. SECAUTION (condition) and SHADOW VAMPIRE (coat) with some improvement to come. Craig Carmody's pair of FORTUNATE and MY ANGEL lighter framed than the others. MARTIAL MUSIC on his toes like he can be.

The Interest

A perfect ride to win from Bowman, settling in the 'one one' before pouncing in the straight. TRIBECA STAR, PEREILE and SECAUTION all very strong too. SURREAL LEO didn't have much luck after going back, MARTIAL MUSIC was too keen and SMART AS SMART warmed up nicely late.

Race 3 IRISH YEARLING SALES HANDICAP

Bias: Fair

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Father's Day Bjorn Baker Dylan Gibbons 2 57.0
2 Just A Jedi Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou Brenton Avdulla 8 59.0
3 Legend Has It Les Bridge Kerrin McEvoy 10 58.0

In The Yard

Most parading well. SPRING BREAK a little bit worked up and keen.

The Interest

FATHER'S DAY is a well bred strong-bodied stayer that is getting better each start this campaign. He was more genuine today and fought on well enough to just hold on from the fast finishing JUST A JEDI. LEGEND HAS IT probably as good as the first two, but he was held up on the turn.

Race 4 RANVET HANDICAP

steady tempo
Bias: Fair

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Short Shorts Brad Widdup Kerrin McEvoy 10 56.5
2 Vivid Flash Chris Waller Hugh Bowman 2 56.0
3 Miss Madison Bjorn Baker Dylan Gibbons 9 57.5

In The Yard

SHORT SHORTS quite fit first-up and more relaxed than she is usually in the yard, just a little bit on her toes. Favourite CINDERELLA DAYS was better behaved in the yard too, but was scratched after playing up in the barrier.

The Interest

The late scratching of the favourite CINDERELLA DAYS left the on-pace spots open and Kerrin McEvoy took advantage on the better behaved SHORT SHORTS. The Brad Widdup trained mare can do a lot wrong on race day, but she held it together here and delivered a tough final 200m to hold off VIVID FLASH. MISS MADISON and STALKING two nice runs from the back.

Race 5 ACROBAT @ COOLMORE HANDICAP

fair tempo
Bias: Fair

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Willinga Rufio Mark Newnham Tyler Schiller 1 59.0
2 Kokoro John O'Shea & Tom Charlton James McDonald 14 58.5
3 Estreet Chris Waller Hugh Bowman 3 59.0

In The Yard

WILLINGA RUFIO fit and ready first-up, just a little bit fresh in the yard, which probably isn't a higher class horse that likes to pounce on the lead early and roll along. SOUND OF CANNONS with improvement to come. MY TRUTH on his toes like he can be.

The Interest

A galloping lesson from a higher class horse. WILLINGA RUFIO is a free-running athletic son of Dundeel and he had too much talent for these. The time only fair so the form in behind might be weaker given the margin to 2nd.

Race 6 DOWNLOAD THE TAB APP TODAY HANDICAP

fair tempo
Bias: Fair

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Savoury Bjorn Baker Joshua Parr 7 60.0
2 Lindermann Chris Waller Kerrin McEvoy 10 54.0
3 Brazen Song Nathan Doyle Zac Lloyd 2 57.5

In The Yard

Most looking well. LUKEY LUKE a big galloper that has come back in good order. SUPPRESSION a stayer with improvement to come.

The Interest

A brilliant ride from Josh Parr. He got SAVOURY into a comfortable trailing spot midfield from barrier 7 before easing into the clear 200m out and charging home late. BRAZEN SONG a touch unlucky up the inside after getting held up. LUKEY LUKE the eye-catcher storming home out wide late and PRETTY AMAZING didn't have much room out the back. Excuses for GARMISH (wide), STICK TO YOUR GUNS (held up badly) and CONRAD (held up badly) too.

Race 7 PRECISE FIRE HANDICAP

fair tempo
Bias: Fair

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Democracy Manifest Chris Waller Hugh Bowman 3 60.0
2 Shadow Devil Mark Newnham Tom Sherry 11 58.0
3 Stromboli Michael, John & Wayne Hawkes Tommy Berry 14 58.5

In The Yard

DEMOCRACY MANIFEST looking very well in the yard first-up. MENSA MISSILE and SHALAILED with a touch of improvement to come. THE POACHER a nice galloper, but not behaving in the yard.

The Interest

DEMOCRACY MANIFEST is one of those horses that charges hard late every start and once Hugh Bowman guided him into clear air 200m out there was only going to be one result. Swooper SHADOW DEVIL and on-pacer STROMBOLI both ran very well too. SEBRENCO, NIKHOLI BEAGLE and NARITO had excuses in behind.
