Yard to the Post | Warwick Farm

Race Day: Warwick Farm on Wednesday, 22 February 2023

Warwick Farm was typically quiet for midweek racing today, but the area around the mounting yard surprisingly came alive before the running of Race 2.

COOL JAKEY is a big strong son of Pierro that is owned by the 'NSW Tycoons', one of the teams owned by syndication company The Racing League. A large group of owners gathered expectantly to watch their impressive gelding parade and he didn't disappoint on the track, fighting hard to beat short-priced favourite PEREILLE for the first of what looks like many wins ahead.

In other races the Waterhouse Bott stable continued their recent run of form with a treble out of the seven races on the card. Promising Trapeze Artist two-year-old INTRODUCING fought on best to win the opening race before the day finished with tough on-pacers MAJOR BEEL (Race 6) and INVINCIBLE VISION (Race 7) holding off the challengers.

Tim Clark rode the winners in Races 6 and 7, clearly relishing the chance to push forward on hard-fit horses and get himself back in form after a disappointing day at Rosehill Gardens on the weekend.

Race 1 FURPHY PLATE

Bias: Fair

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Introducing Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Brett Prebble 2 57.0
2 Capital Heart Matthew Dale James McDonald 4 57.0
3 Storm The Ramparts Joseph Pride Tyler Schiller 8 57.0

In The Yard

The first starter INTRODUCING looked a touch more mature and stronger than most of the 2YOs in the yard. First starter HELLDANCER looked fine first-up, a more athletic type with lighter muscle. TAWFIQ STAR on her toes. FELICITY’S FAULT immature and anxious in the yard.

In The Running

INTRODUCING moved through to lead from FELICITY’S FAULT. CAPITAL HEART a touch keen early (like on debut when led) before James McDonald brought him back to settle 4th 2W WC mid-race. TAWFIQ STAR keen at the back pushing STORM THE RAMPARTS wide on the turn.

The Result

INTRODUCING (1st) came wider on the track and held off a challenge from CAPTIAL HEART (2nd).

The Interest

INTRODUCING seemed the best type in the yard and the trial was sharp beating Platinum Jubilee so there was no surprise he went on to win. He's a nice type that could line up in Autum Carnival races after this win. CAPITAL HEART put a gap on 3rd and clearly improved with a quieter ride this time.

Race 2 DRINKWISE PLATE

slow tempo
Bias: Fair

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Cool Jakey Joseph Pride Tyler Schiller 7 58.5
2 Pereille James Cummings James McDonald 1 58.5
3 Givara Michael, John & Wayne Hawkes Brenton Avdulla 9 59.0

In The Yard

Most looking fine, the first-up horses not far off the mark fitness wise. COOL JAKEY a nice strong balanced type. The favourite PEREILLE perhaps a touch fitter second-up. Smaller in stature and still carrying plenty of muscle.

In The Running

MISSION RIDGE took up the running from COOL JAKEY on his outside. PAREILLE tried to get to the outside of COOL JAKEY 250m out but was forced back to the inside.

The Result

COOL JAKEY (1st) moved up and was too strong for PEREILLE (2nd) running on up the inside and GIVARA (3rd) out wider.

The Interest

COOL JAKEY impressed here, riding the speed and holding off the challengers. He's got plenty of substance about him and looks to have more upside than these. PAREILLE not far off and he struck a little bit of trouble, but he may need gelding to find his best from what we have seen to date.

Race 3 TAB PLATE

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Secaution Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald Chad Schofield 4 57.5
2 Outlawed John O'Shea & Tom Charlton Brenton Avdulla 2 57.5
3 Lasqueti Boom Lee & Cherie Curtis Jay Ford 3 57.5

In The Yard

DIVOTS well in the yard and OUTLAWED looking fit and well too. I AM JADE with sculpted muscle and perhaps some fitness improvement to come. SECAUTION not far off full fitness, she looked fit enough and just seemed to have some cleaning up in the coat to come.

In The Running

DIVOTS took up the running from OUTLAWED with SECAUTION getting a nice trail behind them (3rd 2W WC).

The Result

SECAUTION (1st) moved up and fought on best to beat a brave OUTLAWED (2nd) with a gap back to LASQUETI BOOM (3rd).

The Interest

SECAUTION was strong on debut at this track before having issues at her second start (lame). All back to normal here and she was well supported in the last few minutes before the jump. OUTLAWED brave on-pace and deserves a win soon. DIVOTS has looked sharp in the trials on dry tracks and hasn't performed in two wet track starts so far, although she did pull up with a poor recovery in the Stewards' Report.

Race 4 MICROPHONE FIRST YEARLINGS HANDICAP

slow tempo
Bias: Fair

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Hollywood Hero Bjorn Baker Dylan Gibbons 4 60.5
2 Gorgeous Zara John O'Shea & Tom Charlton Brenton Avdulla 3 56.5
3 Eau De Vie Richard & Will Freedman James McDonald 6 57.0

In The Yard

All the favourites looking well, HOLLYWOOD HERO a nicely proportioned type with a rich dark coat. EAU DE VIE balanced and lighter-framed. GORGEOUS ZARA a neat type with a touch of quality and depth in her forequarter. SHOWSUMGRIT seemed to have some fitness improvement to come and was very quiet in the yard. ITSAGOODDEEL a bit unsettled in the yard. AIR BENTLEY was found to have a dislodged tooth (blood in mouth) before they jumped, but still allowed to run.

In The Running

HOLLYWOOD HERO went to the front from BRIDGET WENLOCK working to get up outside the leader.

The Result

HOLLYWOOD HERO (1st) too strong for GORGEOUS ZARA (2nd) and EAU DE VIE (3rd) running on with a gap back to the rest.

The Interest

HOLLYWOOD HERO had the strongest form ratings coming into this and he delivered a deserved win after a confident ride from Dylan Gibbons, the young hoop easing him down in the closing stages. GORGEOUS ZARA clearly a progressive type as she steps up in distance. EAU DE VIE was good again in SOFT conditions but didn't have the class of the winner as some of her form-lines suggested.

Race 5 EXCEEDANCE'S FIRST YEARLINGS HANDICAP

fair tempo : early pressure
Bias: Fair

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Oz Legend Eric Musgrove Kerrin McEvoy 6 58.5
2 Tip Of The Spear Mike Cattell James McDonald 2 61.0
3 Oceanic Flash Andrew J Payne Brenton Avdulla 7 60.5

In The Yard

Most of the favourites well. MIKASA a big balanced type that usually prefers dry tracks. TYCOON CHARGER had been in form but seemed to lack the class of others in the yard, quite a plain type without much depth to his forequarter. REPOSITION very pain in the yard.

In The Running

DISSENTER pushed on to lead from MIKASA working up on the outside. OZ LEGEND taken back (9th 2W WC).

The Result

OZ LEGEND (1st) moved into it on the turn and stayed on best to run down TIP OF THE SPEAR (2nd) and OCEANIC FLASH (3rd).

The Interest

OZ LEGEND was unlucky last start when back on the inside off a slow tempo and he made amends with a nice staying win today. TIP OF THE SPEAR and OCEANIC FLASH (3rd) both rock solid with a big gap back to MADE BY KHAN (4th), who was travelling nicely on the turn before disappointing late over 2400m again. MIKASA had some company on-pace this time and would have preferred a drier track. TYCOON CHARGER pulled up with a cardiac arrhythmia.

Race 6 BOWERMANS HANDICAP

steady tempo
Bias: Fair

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Major Beel Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Tim Clark 9 55.5
2 Stroke Of Luck John O'Shea & Tom Charlton Brenton Avdulla 4 56.5
3 Ironbark Artie Peter & Paul Snowden Reece Jones 2 54.0

In The Yard

STROKE OF LUCK much better in the yard after playing up fresh at Randwick (Kensington). MAJOR BEEL a neat, tough and very fit horse. ARAVANE balanced with scope to frame. SAUCEY HORSEY looked well but started to get very flighty once James McDonald jumped in the saddle.

In The Running

SAUCEY HORSEY moved up to take the lead from MAJOR BEEL (2nd 2W NC) outside the leader. ARAVENE asked to hold a spot early by Zac Lloyd, then restrained racing keenly once she got stuck wide.

The Result

MAJOR BEEL (1st) fought hard to hold off STROKE OF LUCK (2nd) with a gap back to the rest.

The Interest

MAJOR BEEL has such a great racing style and he's got that will to win, lifting late under the urging of Tim Clark as the runner-up loomed strongly with 200m to go. STROKE OF LUCK improved second-up and looks on an upward trajectory this campaign now. As for ARAVENE, it wasn't Zac Lloyd's best ride and perhaps she just needs further this campaign.

Race 7 ACY SECURITIES HANDICAP

steady tempo
Bias: Fair

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Invincible Vision Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Tim Clark 2 55.0
2 Astero Matthew Smith Ms Amy McLucas 1 61.5
3 Rupertaar Bjorn Baker Ms Cejay Graham 9 60.5

In The Yard

Most of them looking fine ahead of the last race. INVINCIBLE VISION a big strong type resuming off a 67 week break seeming close to full fitness. STANDING ORDER also may have had some fitness improvement to come first-up. THE GREAT HOUDINI very fit and a bit anxious in the yard (blinkers on first time).

In The Running

INVINCIBLE VISION led with RUPERTAAR, ASTERO and NOBLE CONQUEROR on the rails in row behind him. STANDING ORDER stuck 3W NC in midfield. NIPOTINO threw the rider (Reece Jones) early and the riderless horse whipped around the field to lead mid-race.

The Result

INVINCIBLE VISION (1st) kept going from ASTERO (2nd 0.03L), who chased hard and only missed narrowly. RUPERTAAR (3rd 1.2L) and NOBLE CONQUEROR (4th 1.3L) not far off with a big gap back to STANDING ORDER (5th 4L).

The Interest

The rails in run positions dominated this race and the Waterhouse Bott stable did it again. They are the masters at getting big strong horses fit first-up, it's quite incredible that INVINCIBLE VISION was ready to go after 67 weeks on the sideline. He had sustained fractures before his debut in 2021 and clearly needed more time to heal after showing talent in only three starts to date. ASTERO found his right grade/conditions to run well and THE ART OF FLYING, who looked a chance on the turn, pulled up with a poor recovery.
