Yard to the Post @ Royal Randwick
Race Day: Royal Randwick on Saturday, 08 August 2015
Group racing returned to Royal Randwick under sunny skies, the track in the GOOD range for the first time since the Autumn Carnival.
The feature Group 2 Missile Stakes over 1,200 metres was taken out by BURBERO (picture), who sprinted best from the fast finishing WEARY. Kiwi apprentice Rory Hutchings took over the riding from an injured Brodie Loy and he did the job perfectly, steering Bjorn Baker's bomb-proof gelding through the field from near last.
Before the race, the money came for Queensland-raider TEMPLE OF BOOM and mid-week winner LORD LEOFRIC, while MESSENE was a one of many notable market drifters on the day. None of them could match the finishing surge of the winner though, made all the more impressive by his "woolly" appearance in the yard.
There could be more wins in store this campaign, making it an exciting Spring ahead for the Baker stable.
The stand-out performance of the day came from three-year-old SEBRING SUN, a powerful young sprinter that used the dry conditions to show off his devastating turn-of-foot.
Earlier in the day, Josh Parr rode a winning double piloting INZ'N'OUT and MARDI to strong all-the-way victories.
A full yard to the post review will be on-line Sunday at 9am.

1 | Echo Gal | Chris Waller | Tim Clark | 8 | 55.0
2 | Holy Delusions | Chris Waller | Glyn Schofield | 7 | 56.0
3 | Wine Tales | Chris Waller | Rory Hutchings | 1 | 59.0 |
In The Yard
WINE TALES looked fit enough first up. HARD TO HOLD and ECHO GAL also looked fit and well. IL MIO DESTINO is a balanced type. Others relaxed.
In The Running
ECHO GAL jumped best from the outside and set a FAIR TEMPO leaving IL MIO DESTINO to do the chasing. HARD TO HOLD pressed forward without cover from MISS TENPINS on the rail.
The Result
ECHO GAL (1st) controlled the race from the front and victory was never in doubt clearing away from HOLY DELUSIONS (2nd) and WINE TALES (3rd) who both ran on from the back.
The Interest
The late money was spot on as ECHO GAL cleared away for an easy victory. She appreciated the firmer surface (upgraded to a GOOD 4 post race) and showed a good turn-of-foot to kick clear in the straight. Waller's pair, HOLY DELUSIONS and WINE TALES, both weaved their way through when the race was all over, but promising signs there. IL MIO DESTINO had the task of chasing the leader but was just no match fading to just miss a place. Follow ECHO GAL and WINE TALES. Forgive HARD TO HOLD.

3 | El Sasso | Peter & Paul Snowden | Ms Winona Costin | 3 | 58.0 |
In The Yard
INZ'N'OUT looked fit. HIMALAYA DREAM and TURF CRUSHER a little on their toes. EL SASSO carrying some condition.
In The Running
INZ'N'OUT jumped nicely and rolled to an easy lead setting a FAIR TEMPO from MARSEILLE ROULETTE on his outside. HIMALAYA DREAM pushed up along the rail while NOTHING LIKE LUCA raced wide without cover. EL SASSO overraced in the early stages.
The Result
INZ'N'OUT (1st) jumped the barriers and was too strong for MARSEILLE ROULETTE (2nd) which gave chase the whole race. EL SASSO (3rd) and SELECTIFY (4th) worked home ok.
The Interest
Josh Parr elected to roll forward after INZ'N'OUT jumped best, and that was the story of the race as he was always in control. He appreciated the cheaper sectionals in front as well as the firmer ground, and was simply too good. MARSEILLE ROULETTE stuck on after chasing the leader, while EL SASSO ran on ok to place. HIMALAYA DREAM dropped right out after travelling ok in the run (coughing post race), as did NOTHING LIKE LUCA after its wide run.

3 | Dream Folk | Gregory Hickman | Ms Winona Costin | 1 | 59.0 |
In The Yard
CASINO DANCER and LOOPHOLE looked fit. SLIVOVITZ paraded well. Others ok.
In The Running
DUCCIO took control early before Winona Costin took DREAM FOLK (pulled hard) to the lead and inject some pace into the race and set a FAIR TEMPO. LOOPHOLE and BRILLIANT METEOR traveled in behind.
The Result
LOOPHOLE (1st) enjoyed a nice sit and was strong late to defeat CASINO DANCER (2nd). They cleared out from DREAM FOLK (3rd) which stayed on after leading.
The Interest
LOOPHOLE has been racing through the winter and showed his fitness to lift late. CASINO DANCER continues to race consistently, with another placing to add to the tally. DREAM FOLK also continues to race to his level. The well backed DUCCIO looked a little one pace and was plain on the firmer track. SLIVOVITZ took off at the 600m and stuck on ok. BRILLIANT METEOR didn't appreciate the firmer conditions and dropped out in the straight.

In The Yard
RAGEESE a little on toes, all the way to the gates. VOILIER was carrying condition. SEBRING SUN paraded well, coat shining. TATOOSH looked fit.
In The Running
CAN BE BOSSY set a FAIR TEMPO from LET’S MAKE IT RAIN which crossed from the outside. ZOUTENANT and VOILIER enjoyed a nice trail. RAGEESE was checked on jumping away and relegated back to last.
The Result
SEBRING SUN (1st) eased off heels and sprinted best to get the better of VOILIER (2nd) which wore down LET’S MAKE IT RAIN (3rd) to the line. RAGEESE (4th) wound up late out wide.
The Interest
Plenty of interest going forward from Listed level with SEBRING SUN proving much too strong with some fitness on his side. The next test will be stretching out to 1,300m in the Up and Coming in a few weeks and an exciting few weeks await the son of Sebring. VOILIER maintained his run to the line well and appreciated the firmer surface while LET’S MAKE IT RAIN stuck on from on pace. RAGEESE was a little on toes from the yard to the gates, raced keenly in the middle stages, and worked home well out wide. Follow SEBRING SUN. Forgive RAGEESE.

3 | Forget | Kim Waugh | Tommy Berry | 4 | 57.5 |
In The Yard
FORGET holding condition. MARDI and HOLLYWOOD BOUND looked fit and well. Others ok.
In The Running
MARDI jumped best to an uncontested lead from RICHARD THE FIRST at a FAIR TEMPO. FORGET settled well, while DARCI MAGIC was urged into midfield after missing the start (1L).
The Result
MARDI (1st) proved too strong over the mile with HOLLYWOOD BOUND (2nd) running on from FORGET (3rd) which was saved for one run.
The Interest
Josh Parr grabbed a riding double piloting the well backed MARDI to an easy victory. He was a little one paced after recent racing and enjoyed the firmer track, but was too good. HOLLYWOOD BOUND and FORGET both had queries over the mile with the former running on well from the back, while the latter had every possible chance. The three leaner types with the lowest power in the race filled the last three placings.

2 | Weary | Chris Waller | Glyn Schofield | 9 | 58.5
3 | Temple of Boom | Tony Gollan | Ms Winona Costin | 2 | 58.5 |
In The Yard
MESSENE looked fit enough. WEARY and SEE THE WORLD looked relaxed. TEMPLE OF BOOM and LORD LEOFRIC are compact types
In The Running
The speedy Grey ZARATONE ran them along at a FAIR TEMPO with MESSENE facing the breeze outside the breeze. TEMPLE OF BOOM enjoyed a nice sit with LORD LEOFRIC and LIBERTY’S CHOICE on his outside.
The Result
BURBERO (1st) sprinted well from the 200m to arrive late from WEARY(2nd) which finished well down the outside with TEMPLE OF BOOM (3rd) tiring late.
The Interest
BURBERO still looked a little woolly in the yard but enjoyed the tempo up front and stormed home. He continues to step up in grade and looks to enjoy the blinkers. WEARY was much more relaxed in the yard and it showed with a spirited run, working home well out wide on a less favoured drier track. TEMPLE OF BOOM seemed to have every chance and tired late, while MESSENE was nursed outside the lead and will strip fitter from the run. SEE THE WORLD worked into the race well before throwing its head up and losing ground. LIBERTY'S CHOICE failed to finish the race off. Follow WEARY.

In The Yard
GRAND CONDOR looked fit and well. SWEET SERENDIPITYon toes. Others ok.
In The Running
SWEET SERENDIPITY jumped best from the outside to and set a STRONG TEMPO from PLATEAU GOLD in a well strung out field. DARCIWOOD lost ground at the start (2L) when tightened.
The Result
STRATURBO (2nd) hit the lead at the 150m mark, only for BOSS LANE (1st) to overhaul him late. They cleared out from FELINES (3rd) who ran on from the back.
The Interest
BOSS LANE enjoyed a nice sit off the early speed and finished too strongly in the end. STRATURBO was game in defeat, and together, they gapped the rest. FELINES got too far out of her ground, as did DARCIWOOD, and both were never going to be a factor the way the race was run. Early leader SWEET SERENDIPITY compounded badly in the straight to finish last. Forgive DARCIWOOD and FELINES

In The Yard
SWEET FIRE has scope to progress. MISS HUFFLEPUFF and STORM SIREN nice and relaxed. No knock others ok in big field
In The Running
ANANTHA and QUEEN OF SHEBA pressed forward from wide gates to lead at a STEADY TEMPO. AMAZON and SWEET FIRE enjoyed a nice sit in behind.
The Result
SWEET FIRE (1st) chimed in at the 250m mark and held on to beat the fast finishing CHASTENED (2nd) with PICO TURQUINO (3rd) just grabbing a place.
The Interest
SWEET FIRE enjoyed a lovely sit behind the speed, and under the urging of Nash Rawiller, drove to the lead and held on, swooshing the tail till the post. She had the scope to progress, and did so with a charmed run. CHASTENED ran on strongly from worst than midfield and was strong on the line - it was a good effort off a STEADY tempo. PICO TURQUINO overraced in the middle stages before finishing off well. MISS HUFFLEPUFF was under pressure from the 300m, she's very dour. JUST AS COSMIC and STORM SIREN were the best of the closers late.
