The Flemington carnival continues. After a dramatic Melbourne Cup, we turn to the stars of the future in one of the classic races on the calendar, The Oaks. Asking three-year-old fillies to stretch out to 2500m requires real skill in a trainer's craft and it's no coincidence that Robert Smerdon brings three top chances to the race. Fontein Ruby is a tough on-pacer, Crafty is looming as a quality stayer and Lumosty jumps up in distance after an impressive run, as Mosheen did when she won the 2011 Oaks for Smerdon by a huge margin. It's a high quality field though and Group 1 winner Go Indy Go will get a lot of interest after sustaining a long run against the boys last start. Her form-lines through Derby runners stack up well. In an open race, fillies such as the impressive Thunder Lady, in-form Abduction and Set Square have great potential, while Hipster Girl and Yesterjoy had tough runs last start. Evenly-matched, high quality and a great betting race. You can't ask for much more.
